Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, coordinates operations within the nursing department for a caseload of buildings at the Shoreham ICF. Responsible for ensuring the delivery of nursing services in compliance with OPWDD and DOH regulation. Practices and promotes the agency’s mission statement in every interaction.
Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Practices and promotes Citizens' mission statement in every interaction. Through family and community engagement, Citizens supports People to live the life they choose
- Provides direct supervision to RN Supervisors, RN and LPN staff by maintaining ongoing supervisory interaction and conducting yearly evaluations.
- Ensures the implementation of proper principles of primary nursing, in accordance with OPWDD and DOH regulation, ensuring the effectiveness of each nursing department.
- Responsible for scheduling nursing staff to ensure compliance with required staffing minimums. Is on call to the program 24/7 to manage staffing issues and assist with triage of medical concerns.
- Works with Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs to identify and implement immediate and long-term plans of correction for systemic medical concerns/problems. Functions as a member of agency Human Rights, Incident Review, and Medical Review Committees.
- Assists with the retention and hiring of nursing staff.
- Coordinates nursing staff meetings and attends administrative and management meetings to communicate medical information and seek recommendations to improve medical care for individuals in each program.
- Ensures nursing department adherence to all ICF regulations and participates in ongoing surveys by OPWDD.
- Confers with individuals receiving supports and services and their family members/correspondents by telephone and scheduled treatment team meetings to serve as an insightful resource and discuss their specific medical questions.
- Ensures a 24/7 RN on-call system for the program, including review of RN responses and establishment of on-call protocols as needed in conjunction with the director.
- Ensures that work-related safety procedures are in place and adhered to by staff regarding workplace safety and infection control.
- This position requires regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with people receiving services and is subject to successful completion of fingerprint/criminal background check.
- Reports to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse, neglect, or a potentially hazardous work environment. Follows all agency incident policies and procedures.
- Adheres to all regulations, agency policies and procedures, the employee handbook, and training requirements.
- Performs other duties as instructed by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- NYS Registered Nurse License
- 5 years of clinical nursing experience working with the developmentally disabled
- 2 years of supervisory experience
- Qualified NYS Driver's license
