Job summary

The National Council of Young Men’s Christian Associations of the United States of America seeks an Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming in Raleigh, NC. This role translates department strategy into day-to-day execution, leading coaches and athletes from Age Group Select toward National Team readiness and guiding National Team activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of four years of competitive swimming coaching or program leadership experience, including supervision of staff and athlete development.
• ASCA Level 4 or equivalent certifications preferred; YMCA/USA certifications encouraged.
• Must maintain CPR, First Aid, Coaches Safety Training, Lifeguard, and related trainings.
• Passion for building community and relationships with swimmers, families, coaches, volunteers, and partners.
• Experience with roster management, athlete growth, retention, budget management, and multi-site coordination.
• Ability to lead program delivery, coaching standards, and staff development in a team-based environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication; public-facing interactions.
• Initiative, judgment, organization, and prioritization in a fast-paced program.
• Commitment to inclusive, mission-driven relationships with diverse youth and families.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Translate department strategy into day-to-day execution across teams, coaches and locations.
• Lead the performance pathway from Age Group Select to National Team readiness and coach the National Swim Team.
• Supervise designated coaches and provide dotted-line leadership to the Head Age Group Coach.
• Oversee roster management, athlete development and program operations across sites.
• Collaborate with Senior Director to set priorities and address department needs.
• Track performance, manage budgets, and support recruitment across locations.
