Overview

The Assistant 7 Hour Student Nutrition role follows all Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Student Nutrition Services (SNS) guidelines and procedures. The Assistant 7 Hour Student Nutrition performs manual work in the preparation, serving and cashiering of federal reimbursable meals and a la carte foods to students and staff, under immediate supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Assists student during meal service, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and school rules and regulations while circulating through the cafeteria.
  • Prepares, cooks, and serves all food items, including hot and cold items, ensuring correct portion sizes and replenishing the serving line.
  • Monitors food temperatures during preparation and serving and records temperatures according to procedure; follows corrective action procedures if items are not in safe zones.
  • Sets up serving line, obtains paper products and utensils, and presents food attractively.
  • Provides friendly and respectful customer service, acknowledges students by name, thanks students for their business, keeps the serving area neat, and encourages healthy food choices.
  • Enters meal components correctly, documents emergency meal transactions, handles cash and checks accurately, checks for special diets, and follows end-of-day cash control procedures.
  • Receives, checks-in and stocks food; checks-out food for production; organizes storage rooms, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Maintains program accountability, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local rules; records production, HACCP, meal accountability, and cash procedures; aligns with district policies and procedures.
  • Circulates in the cafeteria assisting students, promoting good table manners, and encouraging balanced meals and trying unfamiliar foods.
  • Assists SNS staff with student special diet requests to ensure correct food is provided for dietary or preference requests.
  • Assists with food tastings with the SNS manager and staff, offering samples and soliciting feedback.
  • Prepares and cleans allergy-free tables according to established procedures.
  • Ensures cafeteria tables are clean, free of spills and trash, and the cafeteria is ready for the next group after dismissal according to schedule.
  • Ensures serving line and equipment are clean and properly stored; contributes to kitchen, dish area, and storage area cleanup.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Kitchen or cooking experience to acquire the knowledge and ability described. Language Skills: Reads and interprets safety and operating rules; writes routine reports; speaks effectively to groups. Mathematical Skills: Basic operations with money, weights, measurements. Reasoning Ability: Carries out detailed instructions and solves problems with a few concrete variables. Computer Skills: Basic computer skills required.

Physical Demands: Walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, handling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and keyboarding. Lifting up to 35 pounds. Reaching with both hands; overhead. Environment: Noise level, temperature ranges, and proximity to moving parts as described.
