Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a strategic, collaborative leader to guide Association-wide membership growth, engagement, and operational excellence. Working with branch and Association leaders, you’ll build high-performing teams, share best practices, and create welcoming environments where more people can connect and belong.

You’ll lead membership growth initiatives, strengthen onboarding and retention, and partner with Marketing to expand awareness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Five or more years of progressive leadership experience, with YMCA membership team leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in membership acquisition and growth within a membership-based organization required.
• Experience managing multiple locations, departments, or business units preferred.
• Success developing people and building high-performing teams.
• Demonstrated ability to grow membership, strengthen member engagement and retention, and improve the member experience.
• Strong communication, project management, and relationship-building skills.
• Passion for strengthening communities and helping people thrive.
• Commitment to the YMCA mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Lead Association-wide membership growth strategies.
• Strengthen lead generation, member conversion, referrals, corporate memberships, and community partnerships.
• Partner with Marketing to expand awareness and engagement throughout our communities.
• Improve onboarding, engagement, and long-term member retention.
• Support initiatives that help members connect, build relationships, and fully experience the Y.
• Increase member satisfaction and Net Promoter Score across all branches.
• Coach and support Membership Directors across the Association.
• Lead training in customer experience, Cause-Driven Tours, relationship-based membership, and leadership development.
• Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with leaders across the association to improve systems, reporting, staffing, and operational consistency.
• Use data and performance metrics to identify opportunities and improve results.
