Setting up your agency
  • Financial Requirements: A minimum of $100,000 in seasoned investable assets is typically required to get started. This does not mean that they will spend this much, just that Agency wants to confirm the available capital.
  • Building or Buying: You have the option to either build a new agency from the ground up or acquire an existing Farmers agency.
  • Office Location: A professional, Farmers-branded storefront location is required.
  • Staffing: Agency owners must start with a minimum of two licensed and appointed agency staff members.
Support and resources
  • Training: Farmers provides award-winning training through the University of Farmers, covering marketing, sales, and product knowledge.
  • Mentorship: New agency owners receive guidance and support from experienced District Managers or industry professionals who act as business coaches.
  • Marketing & Branding: Farmers assists with branding, local agency placement, and offers an Exterior Branding Bonus Program to help with initial signage and branding costs.
  • Products: Agency owners gain access to a wide range of Farmers-branded insurance products, other insurance products, brokered solutions, and potentially financial services products (with appropriate licensing).
Benefits and opportunities
  • Income Potential: Agency owners have opportunities for potentially high income through commissions, bonuses, and residual income from policy renewals.
  • Independence: Agency owners have control over their schedule and business operations.
  • Legacy Building: The opportunity to build a business that can be passed down to future generations exists.
  • Community Involvement: Farmers encourages agency owners to become active members of their local communities, supporting local initiatives and building relationships.
Potential challenges
  • Initial Investment: The required capital outlay needs careful consideration.
  • Responsibilities: Agency owners bear the burden of all business expenses and the responsibility of hiring and managing staff.
  • Competition: The insurance industry is competitive, and success requires dedicated effort and strong business acumen.
