REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President for Finance and Treasurer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Associate Vice President for Finance and Controller reports to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Treasurer. The role oversees the university's general accounting and financial reporting functions, leading areas such as accounting, accounts payable, receivables, payroll, benefits, and purchasing. The position supports budgeting processes and reporting, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and safeguarding university assets through internal controls.

The Southern Wesleyan University Business Office aims to support the university community by managing financial information effectively and aligning with the university's Christ-centered mission to develop responsible, servant-leaders who impact the world for Christ.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Vice President for Finance and Controller supervises the Business Office's accounting, receivable, payable, payroll, benefits, and purchasing functions.

1. Maintain accurate accounting records and produce timely financial reports for management, agencies, and the Board of Trustees.
2. Manage the university’s administrative software modules related to finance and HR, including updates and implementations.
3. Ensure overall accuracy of the general ledger.
4. Oversee month-end, year-end, and fiscal-year-end closing processes.
5. Prepare internal financial statements and reports.
6. Lead the university’s annual audits and prepare related reports for agencies like IPEDS and SACS.
7. Reconcile student grants and aid awards, and manage funds from federal programs.
8. Establish and monitor internal controls within supervised areas.
