Job Summary

Associate Vice President for Construction Management and Capital Projects

Location

Claremont, CA

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and supervision for a small Construction Management and Capital Projects team including the Assistant Vice President for Construction Management and Capital Projects and the Business Manager.
  • Manage and administer capital projects, including planning, budgeting, contract preparation, project meetings, and oversight of construction activities.
  • Develop and maintain project scopes and schedules, coordinating with campus partners.
  • Prepare materials for the Board of Trustees and the Campus Planning and Facilities Services Trustee Committee.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with general contractors, project managers, engineers, and city and county officials for active and planned projects.
  • Plan and monitor project budgets in collaboration with the College’s Vice President for Business and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Coordinate Facilities activities with other College and Claremont Colleges resources such as IT, voice, data, and campus safety.
  • Review and issue contracts, manage bid processes, and select professional consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead communication with faculty, staff, and students regarding project timelines and solicit input on program plans.
  • Assist in implementing the 2012 Development Agreement and Campus Master Plan with the City of Claremont and the 2016 Development Agreement for the East Campus with Claremont and Upland.
  • Support the college’s long‑term space utilization plan and manage major renovations of adjacent owned homes in the Arbol Verde neighborhood.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, business, or a related field. Combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Ten or more years of progressive responsibility in construction management, project management, and large construction projects. Experience in an academic or non‑profit setting is strongly desired.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license required for off‑site meetings. College may require a driver’s insurance policy for College‑owned vehicles.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of construction budget management practices and high‑level project management.
  • Experience with contract documentation, project development from planning to final occupancy, and utility distribution systems.
  • Experience managing healthcare, research, or higher‑education projects.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, problem‑solving, and report‑writing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Leadership skills and ability to recruit, motivate, manage, and develop a high‑performance workforce.
  • Ability to build trust and consensus with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and trustees.
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary range: $190,000 to $230,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Work Hours and Hours Required
