Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced Associate Vice President for Epic Program who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.
The AVP, Program Director provides enterprise project leadership for Epic implementation workstreams. This role coordinates Epic project teams, operational stakeholders, third-party system administrators, vendors, and technical resources to ensure scope, staffing, timelines, risks, testing, cutover, go-live, and stabilization activities are planned and executed effectively. The Program Director serves as a primary escalation point for cross-functional dependencies and ensures project decisions align with organizational goals, patient safety, operational readiness, and long-term support needs.
As an Associate Vice President for Epic Program, you will:
- Provide overall leadership, governance, and project direction for Epic implementation workstreams, data strategies, testing, training, cutover planning, go-live support, and post-live stabilization.
- Identifies, escalates, and resolves project risks related to scope, staffing capacity, role clarity, project milestones, technical dependencies, vendor deliverables, legacy system knowledge, and competing organizational priorities.
- Leads resource planning and staffing strategy, ensuring managers and analysts have appropriate allocation, training, role expectations, and support to meet Epic project responsibilities.
- Manages project budgets and expenditures, identifying any financial risks.
- Establishes and maintains project communication plans, status reporting, decision logs, issue-management processes, change-control pathways, and leadership updates for AHC/entity leaders and key stakeholders.
- Collaborates across the system with stakeholders including leadership, IT, revenue cycle and clinical representatives to support change management strategies and drive stakeholder engagement.
- Develops the Epic implementation team. Leads and coaches project managers and direct reports.
- Maintains knowledge of Epic implementation practices, healthcare technology trends, interface/API integration concepts, legacy data conversion processes, and project management methods relevant to assigned responsibilities.
- Supports transition to long-term support by confirming documentation, knowledge transfer, stabilization plans, and ownership.
Qualifications include:
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex healthcare information technology or electronic health record implementation projects.
- Strong project governance, planning, risk management, issue resolution, escalation, and decision-facilitation skills.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional work across clinical operations, information technology, application teams, technical teams, vendors, third-party system administrators, legal, contracting, procurement, and executive stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability, interface engines, HL7/FHIR/API concepts, data extraction/transformation, testing, cutover, go-live, stabilization, and long-term support considerations.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level communication, meeting facilitation, status reporting, and documentation of decisions, dependencies, and risks.
- Ability to develop, lead, and coach managers and project teams while setting clear role expectations and accountability for deliverables.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, competing deadlines, high-risk workstreams, and changing project needs while maintaining focus on patient safety, quality, and operational readiness.
- Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools, including word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, email, scheduling, and project tracking applications.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field such as health care administration, information technology, business administration, clinical informatics, project management, or a related discipline. - Master's degree preferred.
- Over eight years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare information technology, electronic health record implementation, clinical/business operations, project management, systems integration, or related experience is required. Epic implementation experience is preferred.
- Minimum five years of supervisory, management, or large-scale project leadership experience is required.
- Project Management Professional preferred
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
- Epic certification, proficiency, or implementation experience preferred
- Experience coordinating vendor deliverables, third-party system dependencies, interface/API integrations, legacy data conversion or archival activities, and go-live/stabilization support
