Job description

B.W. Furlong & Associates is hiring a veterinarian to oversee our well-established advanced imaging caseload. We currently offer standing MRI and nuclear scintigraphy in Oldwick, NJ, as well as standing MRI in Wellington FL. We will soon be adding a Qalibra CT as part of a complete new hospital in Oldwick, NJ. You will have the support of a large, collaborative team of veterinarians, all the equipment, facilities, and staff that you need to practice gold standard medicine, and an established referral network and client base with the means to support that level of care.

Who are we?

B.W. Furlong & Associates was founded in 1982 by Dr. Brendan Furlong, and has steadily grown from a one man operation to a practice of 23 veterinarians and over 50 support staff and technicians. The practice includes a veterinary hospital, imaging center, surgery center, and rehabilitation center in Oldwick, NJ, an imaging center and office in Wellington, FL, and ambulatory services offered in Oldwick, NJ, Ocala and Wellington, FL, Middleburg, VA and in other seasonal locations. The practice has recently broken ground to build a new, state of the art, 50,000+ square foot facility in Oldwick. The facility will allow for the addition of the Qalibra CT machine and an upgrade to a newer nuclear scintigraphy machine; our Hallmarq MRI will move into the new facility.

We pride ourselves on being progressive leaders who deliver the ultimate in veterinary care; among our 23 veterinarians, we currently have 5 specialists: two DACVIM, two DACT, and one DACVS. Members of our team have also supported US and Canadian Olympic, Paralympic, World Championship, and Pan American teams for generations.

We invest in our organization and people, in the forms of continuing education, investments in technology and resources, and the creation of new positions as demands and needs change. We are committed to providing world class care, we practice a collaborative brand of medicine, we believe in supporting our colleagues, and we always try to do what is right. These are our core values, and they should resonate with all applicants.

Where are we?

New Jersey is the east coast’s best kept secret, with our headquarters located in the idyllic countryside of Hunterdon County. The area offers easy access to New York City, Philadelphia, and the Jersey Shore along with hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and riding trails and endless outdoor activities. Most staff live within a 30 minute drive of the practice and are able to commute without taking major highways. For those raising a family, a number of towns in the area offer award winning school systems.

What will you be doing?

B.W. Furlong & Associates is seeking a veterinarian to lead our advanced imaging team. We have been providing advanced imaging for over twenty years, and have developed strong relationships with a wide base of referring veterinarians, consulting radiologists, and supportive vendors. Our two imaging centers are regularly the busiest Hallmarq locations in the country, and we have built that reputation through the quality of our images and the ability to provide real-time feedback to the referring veterinarian about case management. The veterinarian will step in to lead our team, working alongside our imaging technicians, and our remote consulting radiologist, to manage the robust caseload in both locations.

If you are the ideal candidate, you will have experience in acquiring and interpreting MR images of the lower limb, though you will have consistent support from our consulting radiologist. You will consult with referring veterinarians to create a diagnostic approach, provide primary and/or second opinions on lameness cases, assess MR images in near real-time to allow for modifications of study protocols in order to maximize their diagnostic value, compile and distribute radiologist reports, and consult on and/or perform indicated treatments. As such, this role is best suited for a veterinarian with exceptional interpersonal skills, as the role requires daily communication with referring veterinarians, clients, and the imaging team. Additional experience in clinical diagnosis and management of lameness, expertise in ultrasonography, and familiarity with CT and nuclear scintigraphy is preferred. We are happy to invest in your further education to help supplement that experience.

The nature of this position does allow flexibility in the working location, so a partial work-from-home schedule is possible, if so desired. Furthermore, given our multiple imaging centers, veterinarians can choose to be primarily based out of either Oldwick, NJ or Wellington, FL. Candidates may be included in our ambulatory or hospital on-call pool, though that is negotiable for candidates with substantial MRI experience.

Individuals pursuing board-certification in sports medicine and rehabilitation or diagnostic imaging are encouraged to apply, and we are willing to adjust the schedule to accommodate the associated study requirements.

All candidates will be required to obtain New Jersey and Florida licenses.

Please submit your cover letter and resume via email to Kim Reitmeyer, Human Resources & Administrative Manager, at hiring@bwfurlong.com.
