Job description

Mainstay Veterinary Practice is a privately owned, woman-owned small animal practice in Fairfax, Virginia, and we’re looking for an associate veterinarian to join our team. We’re open to both full-time and part-time candidates.

Our team currently includes seven veterinarians, many of whom have been with us for years, but continued growth and a doctor moving out of the area means we’re ready to add another doctor.

A Little About Us

Mainstay is AAHA-accredited and Cat Friendly, with a loyal client base that allows us to practice high quality medicine. Our clients trust our doctors, value their recommendations, and are generally willing to pursue appropriate diagnostics, dental care, specialty referrals, and treatment when recommended.

In 2023, we moved into a new, 11,000-square-foot hospital that was designed from the ground up with our patients, doctors, and staff in mind. Our hospital includes:

• Companion Laser Therapy
• Olympic Dental and Surgical Tables
• Dual dental and surgical suites

• 3 cat-only exam rooms
• 8 dog-only exam rooms

What It’s Like to Work Here

We’re looking for someone who practices high-quality medicine, communicates well, and wants to be part of a team. We have an experienced nursing staff that does a lot to make our doctors' days easier and allows them to focus on being doctors rather than trying to do everything themselves.

We also use AI scribe technology to help with medical records and reduce the amount of time our doctors spend charting after appointments.

Surgery is performed Monday through Friday. Ideally, we are looking for someone who wants to do soft tissue surgeries a few days a week.

Our doctors are paid on salary rather than production. We want doctors making recommendations based on what they believe is best for the patient—not because they’re thinking about a production number. We also believe strongly that choosing salary shouldn’t mean sacrificing earning potential, and we compensate our doctors accordingly.
