Tempus Recruitment represents a privately owned veterinary hospital in California seeking a full-time or part-time Associate Veterinarian to join a team that provides comprehensive small animal care. The role involves general medicine, surgery, dentistry, preventive care, and integrative services.
The hospital emphasizes 60% sick-patient and 40% wellness appointments, with a flexible four- or five-day workweek.
Our client is a privately owned, AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital seeking a Full-Time or Part-Time Associate Veterinarian to join its team. The practice provides comprehensive small animal veterinary care, with dogs and cats accounting for approximately 99% of its caseload. Offering a combination of general medicine, surgery, dentistry, preventative healthcare, and integrative veterinary services, the hospital provides a varied clinical environment within an established and growing practice. Although a full-time veterinarian is preferred, the hospital offers considerable scheduling flexibility, with the option to work four or five days per week.
The Associate Veterinarian will be responsible for delivering high-quality medical, surgical, and preventative care while building strong relationships with clients through clear communication and education. Clinical responsibilities include performing comprehensive physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, and performing routine soft tissue surgeries and dentistry where applicable.
The veterinarian will also maintain accurate medical records, promote preventative healthcare, follow hospital protocols, and collaborate with the wider veterinary team to ensure a high standard of patient care while contributing to a positive, supportive, and team-oriented working environment.
The hospital operates Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sundays. Veterinary appointments are typically allocated 30 minutes, with the clinical caseload consisting of approximately 60% sick-patient consultations and 40% wellness appointments.
The position is ideally suited to an experienced veterinarian with at least two years of clinical experience, although candidates with less experience may also be considered.
The hospital is an established, privately owned small animal general practice providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental services. The main clinic has served San Jose and the surrounding communities for approximately 10 years under its current ownership and forms part of a two-location veterinary business, with the second practice established approximately seven years ago.
The hospital is AAHA accredited and offers a broad range of clinical services supported by modern diagnostic equipment and an established client base.
Diagnostic capabilities include ultrasound, full-body radiography, a fully equipped dental suite, and in-house laboratory testing. External laboratory services are also available, allowing veterinarians to investigate a wide range of medical conditions. The practice uses a predominantly electronic medical records system to support clinical documentation and daily operations.
Dentistry represents a significant proportion of the clinical caseload, with the hospital performing a high volume of dental procedures supported by its dedicated dental suite. Radiography and ultrasound provide additional diagnostic capabilities for both routine investigations and more complex medical presentations.
Clinical services encompass general practice, preventative healthcare, dentistry, surgery, diagnostic imaging, urgent care, and integrative veterinary medicine. Routine services include wellness examinations, vaccinations, spaying and neutering, diagnostic investigations, behavioral consultations, and nutritional advice.
The hospital also offers acupuncture, holistic and integrative medicine, herbal medicine, and therapeutic laser treatments. These services complement its traditional veterinary care, with clinical interests within the practice including pain management, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, and dentistry.
Urgent care and emergency services are also advertised, allowing veterinarians to assess and treat patients requiring prompt medical attention during operating hours.
The practice benefits from a loyal, longstanding client base, positive local reviews, and continued growth, including during quieter trading periods. The hospital places considerable importance on maintaining strong client relationships and providing high-quality veterinary care at fair, competitive prices.
The working environment is close-knit and collaborative, with an emphasis on compassionate, individualized patient care. The combination of AAHA accreditation, modern diagnostic capabilities, a substantial dental caseload, integrative veterinary services, and an established client base provides a varied general practice environment.
The hospital has three full-time veterinarians, alongside relief veterinarians who provide additional clinical coverage several times per week. The veterinary team is supported by approximately 3.5 support staff members per veterinarian, providing assistance with daily clinical responsibilities and patient care.
