West Bend Insurance Company is seeking an Associate Underwriter for our Commercial Enterprise team. This in‑office role starts in West Bend/Madison, WI, with a structured onboarding program designed to build foundational underwriting knowledge and agency relationships.

The position focuses on evaluating small market submissions, developing judgment and technical skills, and progressing toward underwriting independence within West Bend Express. Salary range is provided and benefits are extensive.

Qualifications

• Organizational and analytical abilities required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with others in a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; comfortable with systems/workflows.
• Able to gather and analyze underwriting information and present findings.
• Experience in building productive agency relationships and representing West Bend values.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite assigned Commercial Enterprise new business submissions in the small‑market segment.
• Evaluate exposure, coverage needs, pricing considerations, and insurability per guidelines.
• Gather, review, and analyze underwriting information to support decisions.
• Communicate underwriting decisions and next steps with agency partners.
• Support written premium, profitability, quality, and service goals with timely underwriting.
• Document files with rationale and detail; use underwriting systems and tools accurately.
• Seek feedback and coaching to progress toward underwriting independence.
• Build agency relationships and convey West Bend culture in interactions.
• Complete other duties and development activities as assigned.
