HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville is seeking an Associate Trauma Medical Director to lead a dynamic trauma and acute care surgery team alongside the Trauma Medical Director. This leader will oversee a multispecialty team and coordinate high‑volume trauma care in a Level II center.

The role emphasizes performance improvement, resident education, and collaboration with specialists to deliver comprehensive acute care services in a busy urban setting.

Qualifications

  • Board-certified in General Surgery with Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
  • Active Florida license or ability to obtain; no restrictions.
  • Current unrestricted DEA registration.
  • Extensive trauma surgery experience.
  • Proven leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to participate in performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead 12-hour primary in-house coverage with 12-hour back-up.
  • Collaborate with multispecialty teams (Cardiothoracic, Vascular, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology).
  • Oversee seven advance practice professionals and six trauma surgeons.
  • Participate in TQIP and related collaboratives.
  • Supervise and mentor general surgery residents on the service.

Qualified Candidates
  • Must be board certified in General Surgery with Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
  • Have a current, or be able to obtain an unrestricted license to practice in Florida - not subject to any restrictions, probationary terms or conditions
  • No history of license to practice being revoked, restricted or suspended by any professional licensing agency in any state or jurisdiction
  • Have current, unrestricted DEA registration
  • Have previous Trauma Surgery experience
  • Be committed to impactful performance improvement
  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills
  • Duties are organized around 12-hour primary in-house coverage, plus 12-hour back-up.
  • The acute care surgery team has six advanced practice professionals.
  • General surgery residents rotate on the service.
  • The program participates in TQIP and TQIP collaboratives.
  • Supported by a multispecialty team of Cardiothoracic, Vascular, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery and Interventional Radiology
About the position
  • The acute care surgery team has seven fulltime advanced practice professionals and six fulltime trauma surgeons.
  • The program participates in TQIP and TQIP collaboratives.
  • Supported by a multispecialty team of Cardiothoracic, Vascular, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery and Interventional Radiology
  • 26 ORs and 36 ICU beds combined TICU/MICU
  • 56-bed emergency department with 2 dedicated trauma bays and 4 additional critical care bays
  • 1840 annual trauma patients entered in the registry
  • Florida State verified level II Trauma Center
  • High volume of blunt / penetrating trauma (87% / 13%)
  • Pediatric trauma (under 16 years old) and all burn cases stabilized and transferred to pediatric center
