Positional Overview: Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks an Associate/Tooling Engineer (Level1 or Level2) to join the Tooling Team in Clearfield,Utah. The engineer will support the B Shift (Mon–Thu, 2:30PM–1:00AM) and will manage tooling from concept through implementation for aerospace composite part fabrication, handling, and assembly.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide disposition for discrepant tooling.
- Supervise and support critical production builds involving technical tooling processes.
- Facilitate communication between A‑shift and B‑shift operations.
- Support metrology, tooling transportation and tooling maintenance efforts.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist the tool design group with off‑load design projects (3D modeling, 2D drafting and checking).
- Manage tooling projects from concept through implementation to deliver production quality aerospace tooling.
- Manage external tooling design/fabrication shops on design/build projects.
- Concept and design special tooling within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) structure.
- Use and manage CAD resources (primarily NX) for tooling design.
- Work with vendors to ensure successful fabrication and approve source inspection at supplier sites.
- Proof tooling upon receipt in a production environment and maintain tooling documentation.
- Provide tooling cost/schedule estimates and document stress analysis for compliance.
- Use Microsoft applications to communicate and present tooling progress.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate Tooling Engineer (Level1):
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline.
- Minimum of 0 years experience.
- Active U.S. Government Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR).
- Experience with project management and communication skills.
- Tooling Engineer (Level2):
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 1 year relevant engineering experience, or a Master’s degree with 0 years experience.
- Active U.S. Government Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain PAR.
- Experience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling for composite parts.
- Experience with project management, communication, general metallic fabrication (welding and machining), 3D CAD systems, and free‑body diagram analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering.
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Experience with tooling for composites manufacturing and handling, NX experience, FEA experience.
- Experience in design of molds, machining fixtures, handling, and assembly tools for composite manufacturing.
Salary
- Primary Level: $59,900.00 – $89,900.00.
- Secondary Level: $72,100.00 – $108,100.00.
