Job description

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking an Associate/Tooling Engineer Level 1/2 located in Clearfield, Utah.

Shift: B Shift (Mon – Thur, 2:30 PM – 1:00 AM). The schedule is approximate and includes a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break.

This position supports aerospace composite part fabrication, handling, and assembly for the commercial and defense aerospace industries. Engineers manage their work from design concept through implementation and collaborate closely with safety, manufacturing, and customers.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide disposition for discrepant tooling.
  • Supervise and support critical production builds involving technical tooling processes.
  • Communicate between A‑shift and B‑shift operations to support continuous movement of production critical tasks.
  • Support metrology, tooling transportation, and tooling maintenance efforts to facilitate program execution.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assist the tool design group with off‑load design projects and tasks, including 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and checking.
  • Manage tooling projects/assignments from concept through implementation to provide production‑quality aerospace tooling.
  • Manage external Tooling Design/Fabrication Shops on Design/Build projects.
  • Conceptualize and design special tooling within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) structure.
  • Use and/or manage Computer Aided Design resources for tooling design (primarily NX).
  • Work with vendors to ensure successful fabrication of tooling.
  • Witness/approve source inspection of special tooling at supplier locations before acceptance.
  • Proof tools upon receipt in a production environment.
  • Maintain tooling documentation related to design, analysis, fabrication, and proofing.
  • Provide tooling cost/schedule estimates for new tools or tooling modifications.
  • Document stress analysis of tools for compliance with requirements.
  • Use Microsoft applications to communicate and present tooling progress.
Basic Qualifications – Associate Tooling Engineer (Level 1)
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 0 years of experience.
  • Active U.S. Government Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period.
  • Experience with project management and communication skills.
Basic Qualifications – Tooling Engineer (Level 2)
  • Active U.S. Government Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 1 year of relevant engineering experience; or Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 0 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience in design, fabrication, and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite parts.
  • Experience with project management and communication skills.
  • Experience with general metallic fabrication, including welding and machining.
  • Experience with 3D CAD systems.
  • Experience with creating free‑body diagrams and analyzing tooling for allowable stress and fatigue.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with tooling for composites manufacturing and handling.
  • NX experience.
  • FEA experience.
  • Experience designing molds, machining fixtures, handling, and assembly tools for composite manufacturing.

Primary Level Salary Range: $59,900.00 – $89,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 – $108,100.00
