Job summary

Allison Transmission is seeking an Associate Technician, VE+ET Test Engineering, to support the planning, coordination, and execution of test programs. You will work with Test Engineers and technicians to prepare and communicate test data for analysis and reporting, ensuring accurate instrumentation and data collection in a hands-on environment.

The role requires 0-2 years in engineering tech, ability to read schematics, strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, and proficiency with Microsoft

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience in an engineering technician role.
  • Proficient in both oral and written business communication.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with computer operation, including Microsoft Office tools.
  • Desire to work in a “hands‑on” environment.
  • Ability to operate large commercial vehicles in a controlled environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing and carrying out test engineering tasks, including basic component replacements, assembly conversions, and fabrication activities that support integrating test items into development projects.
  • Perform test bench and test cell setups by installing system components, mounting hardware, routing cables, and connecting data acquisition (DAQ) equipment according to established engineering instructions.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving vehicle‑level test system issues, including DAQ faults, CAN communication problems, EFM/Fueltron/Emissions Bench measurement issues, and other Facility‑related faults
  • Install essential sensors, measurement devices, and instrumentation required for test programs while following defined calibration procedures to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Operate test sequences as directed in the engineering plan, checking data accuracy across communication channels, load systems, fluid/energy flows, and environmental conditions.
  • Carry out routine service tasks, basic unit maintenance, and scheduled preventive upkeep on test equipment. Participate in efforts to maintain facility cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Record details of work performed, observations, and equipment information while collaborating with engineers, supervisors, and team members during test activities.
  • Serve as a professional, customer‑facing representative for the VE+ET during external customer test programs, demonstrating reliable communication, accurate reporting of vehicle test status and results, and high standards of conduct within the test cell and facility.
  • Participate in VE+ET facility improvement initiatives focused on reducing vehicle changeover time, improving dyno/test cell cleanliness and readiness, optimizing instrumentation setup, and enhancing test-cell organization and safety
  • Perform additional VE+ET duties as assigned, including supporting customer testing, special test requests, and emergent vehicle/test cell issues

Job Description:

As an Associate Technician, VE+ET Test Engineering, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of test programs. You will also contribute by assisting in test setup, instrumentation, operation, and equipment maintenance while working closely with Test Engineers and other Technicians to prepare and communicate test data for analysis and reporting. You will be expected to have a technical understanding of test systems, instrumentation and data collection setup.

In this role, you will be a valuable part of the team by:

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
    • Vocational or technical degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience
  • EDUCATION PREFERRED:
    • Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    • 0-2 years of experience in an engineering technician role
    • Proficient in both oral and written business communication
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
    • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude
    • Proficiency with computer operation, including Microsoft Office tools
