Job summary

Ontic is hiring an early-career full stack engineer in Austin to build software that helps security teams identify threats and respond faster. You will work across frontend and backend, grow your skills, and own meaningful work with guidance from senior engineers.

You will collaborate in an agile environment, review code, and ramp up quickly on Ontic's stack, tools, and domain while contributing to product features and quality code.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 0-2 years of professional, internship, or project experience in software engineering.
• Some familiarity with Java, Spring Boot, and MongoDB.
• Basic understanding of RESTful APIs.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and React fundamentals.
• Exposure to npm/Webpack and willingness to grow into TypeScript, Redux/Zustand/React Query, and Jest.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical ability.
• Understanding of Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Growth mindset, eagerness to learn, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Feature Development: Build and ship well-tested frontend and backend features with guidance from senior engineers.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers in an agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Feature Development: Build and ship well-tested features across the frontend and backend, with guidance and support from senior engineers.
• Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers in an agile environment to deliver features and enhancements.
• Code Quality: Write clean, readable, and tested code; participate actively in code reviews and incorporate feedback.
• Learning & Growth: Ramp up quickly on Ontic's tech stack and domain, and seek out feedback and mentorship to accelerate your development.
• Debugging & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve bugs and issues, escalating and collaborating with senior engineers as needed.
• Participation: Contribute ideas and perspective in technical design discussions for the features you work on.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 0-2 years of professional, internship, or project experience in software engineering, with exposure to both backend and frontend development.
• Some familiarity with Java, Spring Boot, and database technologies such as MongoDB (coursework, internship, or project experience is welcome).
• Basic understanding of RESTful APIs.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and React fundamentals.
• Exposure to modern JS tooling (npm/Webpack) and a willingness to grow into TypeScript, state management (Redux/Zustand/React Query), and testing (Jest).
• Solid foundational problem-solving and analytical ability.
• Understanding of Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with, or interest in learning, CI/CD and cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Mindset: Strong curiosity and eagerness to learn new technologies and domains.
• Receptive to feedback and coaching, with a growth-oriented attitude.
• Collaborative, detail-oriented, and dependable.
• This role supports a FedRAMP environment and requires that work be performed within the United States by individuals authorized to work in the U.S. and who are U.S. citizens.
