Ontic is seeking a seasoned full-stack engineering leader to shape and execute a scalable technical strategy within a multi-team environment. You will mentor engineers, drive architecture decisions, and elevate engineering standards across products.
You will oversee backend systems with Java, Spring Boot, and distributed data stores, while guiding frontend excellence with React, TypeScript, and modern tooling. This role is based in Austin and requires in-office presence three days a week.

You are a seasoned full stack engineer who operates as a trusted technical leader across multiple teams and systems. You solve the organization's hardest technical problems, set direction on architecture and engineering practice, and multiply the effectiveness of the engineers around you through mentorship and influence — without needing formal authority to do it.

Architecture & Strategy: Define and drive technical architecture and strategy for systems that span multiple teams
Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with engineering leaders, product leaders, and teams across the organization on complex, high-impact initiatives
Technical Leadership: Set technical direction and establish engineering best practices and standards across teams
Mentorship: Mentor engineers across levels, develop other technical leaders, and raise the technical bar organization-wide
Complex Problem Solving: Take on the organization's most challenging technical problems, particularly those spanning multiple systems or domains
Performance, Scalability & Security: Drive improvements to performance, scalability, and security that benefit multiple teams and systems
Lifecycle Ownership: Own major cross-team initiatives end-to-end, from ideation through long-term operational health
Innovation: Evaluate and introduce new tools, frameworks, and practices that improve engineering effectiveness across the organization
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Experience: 8+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience, including at least 3 years driving technical architecture or strategy across multiple teams
Deep expertise with Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch, including designing high‑scale, distributed data systems
Track record of designing RESTful APIs and backend architecture that scales across teams and products
Expert‑level proficiency with JavaScript, React, and modern frontend frameworks
Deep experience with state management (Redux, Zustand, React Query) and frontend performance optimization at scale
Strong command of ES2015+, TypeScript, Webpack, Jest, Tailwind, and TDD practices
Deep understanding of browser rendering behavior, performance tuning, and accessibility
Proven ability to design systems and architecture that scale across multiple teams and products
Strong command of CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure), and DevOps workflows
Excellent communication and cross‑functional influence, including with senior stakeholders
Strategic thinker who balances long‑term architecture with pragmatic delivery
Enjoys mentoring and multiplying the impact of other engineers
Curiosity, drive to learn, and enthusiasm for raising the engineering bar organization‑wide
This role is based in Austin, Texas, and requires working from the Austin office three days a week.
This role supports a FedRAMP environment and requires that work be performed within the United States by individuals authorized to work in the U.S. and who are U.S. citizens.
