Qualifications

  • Two years of mechanical trade school education or an Associate's degree in Engineering/Mechanical fields.
  • At least two years of field-service experience with mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to support government contract activities.

Responsibilities

  • Travel domestically and internationally on short notice up to 70–100% of the time to support service, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, commissioning, and operation of marine engines and propulsion systems.
  • Analyze technical data, define field activity scope, and prepare tools and equipment for safe, on-schedule work.
  • Inspect and test engines and propulsion systems, maintaining accurate service records.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to customers and service personnel on MTU equipment.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, service, and quality teams to improve manuals and documentation.

Position Summary

Our Marine Service organization supports critical engine and propulsion systems operating in demanding marine defense environments. As an Associate Marine Service Technician, you will assist with the troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, testing, and commissioning of engines, propulsion systems, and associated electronic controls aboard marine vessels. This highly mobile field-service role offers extensive hands‑on technical experience while contributing directly to equipment reliability, customer readiness, and the continued improvement of Rolls‑Royce marine solutions.

What you will be doing
  • Travel domestically and internationally on short notice up to 70–100% of the time to support the service, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, commissioning, and operation of marine engines, propulsion systems, and associated electronic control systems.
  • Analyze technical data and service requirements, define the scope of field activities, and prepare the parts, tools, instrumentation, and testing equipment needed to complete customer work safely and on schedule.
  • Inspect, instrument, test, and evaluate engines, propulsion systems, and related components, maintaining accurate engine, vessel, equipment, and service records.
  • Provide customers and service personnel with technical assistance and practical instruction on the maintenance, safe operation, and shutdown of mtu equipment.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, service, and quality teams to support design improvements, resolve technical issues, and improve service manuals, bulletins, and other technical documentation.
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent. Resident Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S without sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
Basic Requirements:
  • Two years of mechanical trade school education; or
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Science, Mechanical Technology, Diesel Technology, Marine Technology, or a related technical field; or
  • At least two years of field-service experience involving mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to support government contract activities.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Strong technical knowledge of internal combustion engines, marine propulsion systems, instrumentation, electronic engine controls, and related mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, commission, or operate diesel engines, propulsion equipment, and associated components using mechanical, electrical, measurement, and testing tools.
  • Experience with mtu engines and electronics, diesel engine component testing, machine‑shop equipment, fuels, coolants, lubricants, oils, forklift operation, or rigging activities involving loads up to one ton.
  • Strong technical communication, customer service, organization, and documentation skills, including experience preparing detailed service reports, maintenance records, or service letters and using standard computer applications.
Mental & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull items weighing between 20 and 60 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk, lift, and use a keyboard or mouse as required to perform the position.
  • Ability to work approximately 90% of the time in marine shipyards and vessel engine rooms and approximately 10% of the time in an office environment.
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical equipment and in environments that may include elevated noise, fumes, dust, water, odors, gases, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule and extended hours while performing field-service assignments.
