Job summary

The Bulfinch Companies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join our Greater Boston team.

You will support full cycle accounting, financial analysis, and reporting for real estate partnerships and related entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Candidates with commercial real estate property accounting experience, Yardi proficiency, and strong MS Office skills will thrive in our collaborative, deadline‑driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, preferred.
  • Commercial real estate property accounting experience required.
  • Experience with Yardi accounting software required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive mindset.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review tenant accounts for base rent and charges per lease, resolve discrepancies.
  • Communicate changes to billings and collect late payments.
  • Prepare reconciliations of tenant operating and real estate tax escalations.
  • Process daily cash receipts accurately and timely.
  • Research and code vendor payments prior to processing.
  • Assist in monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements for investors, lenders, and internal users.
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and monthly reporting.
  • Analyze revenue and expense variances and document material fluctuations.
  • Support development funding requisitions and annual financial statements.
  • Compile year-end reporting packages for audits.
  • Coordinate with Asset Management, Tax, Finance and Legal to gather information.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as assigned.

Purpose:

The Senior Property Accountant position is responsible for assisting with the full cycle accounting,financial analysis and reporting function for real estate partnerships and other related entities.

About You:

You have previous experience and a strong interest in property accounting and commercial real estate. You bring a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a proactive mindset. You’re comfortable working with accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite products, Yardi, and Adobe Acrobat. You thrive in a team environment, communicate clearly, and manage your time effectively. Adaptable and solutions-oriented, you take pride in your accuracy, professionalism, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting. You can work independently, ask thoughtful questions, and apply solutions in multiple situations.

Responsibilities:
  • Review tenant accounts to ensure they are billed for base rent and additional charges in accordance with their lease and investigate and resolve all discrepancies noted
  • Efficiently communicate with tenants on changes to billings and resolve any late payments
  • Prepare annual reconciliations of tenant operating and real estate tax escalations for assigned properties
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of daily cash receipts for assigned properties
  • Research and assess vendor payments to ensure they are properly coded prior to payment
  • Assist in the preparation of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for investors, lenders, and internal users
  • Assist in the annual budgeting process, quarterly re-forecasting process and preparation of monthly reports for review by senior management
  • Prepare revenue and expense variance analysis on a quarterly basis and investigate and document any material fluctuations
  • Assist with monthly development funding requisitions
  • Assist with the preparation and review of annual financial statements
  • Compile year end reporting packages and related schedules required for the annual audits
  • Work with Asset Management, Tax, Finance and Legal Departments to obtain necessary information for the compilation of the annual financial statements
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned

Compensation & Benefits:
  • The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $110,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and overall skill set. Bulfinch offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, along with significant opportunity for professional growth and advancement within the organization. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors assessed throughout the interview process.
