Stylus Medicine is seeking an innovative, intellectually curious and team-oriented Associate Scientist/Senior Associate Scientist to join our growing Immunology team focused on developing cutting-edge cell therapy and in vivo targeted cell engineering approaches. In this lab-based role, the Associate Scientist/Senior Associate Scientist will play a key part in engineering immune cells and supporting the development of delivery platforms that enable precise gene editing directly within the body. This is a unique opportunity to work on the front lines of innovation and contribute to transformational therapies. Reporting to the Senior Director of Immunology, this individual will be an integral part of our team, driving forward our mission to revolutionize the field of immunotherapy.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Validate and characterize novel gene editing tools, including large serine recombinases (LSRs), in clinically relevant immune cell types such as T cells and NK cells
- Design and execute in vitro assays to evaluate engineered immune cells and optimize phenotyping workflows to support next-generation cell and gene therapy programs
- Support development and functional testing of targeted in vivo delivery systems, including non-viral platforms like LNPs, to enable precise immune cell engineering
- Perform multi-parameter flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, and functional immune assays (e.g., cytotoxicity, proliferation, activation)
- Isolate, culture, and characterize primary immune cells from blood and tissue specimens
- Analyze, interpret, and communicate experimental data to inform project direction and decision-making
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records in compliance with data integrity and documentation standards
- Draft non-clinical study reports and contribute to the preparation of regulatory documents, including IND-enabling packages
- Collaborate with regulatory and preclinical teams to ensure robust documentation of non-clinical findings for submissions
- Present experimental findings and progress updates in cross-functional team meetings
- Collaborate closely with scientists across immunology, gene editing and delivery platform teams to drive project goals
Qualifications & Skills:
- PhD (or equivalent) in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Virology, Immunology or related field of study
- B.S. or M.S. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field
- 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience (industry or academic) with a B.S., or 3+ year with an M.S.
- Strong technical expertise in mammalian cell culture, especially primary immune cells
- Proficient in flow cytometry and immunoassays
- Familiar with gene editing tools (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) and delivery technologies (LNPs, AAV, or similar)
- Experience working with internal teams to advance in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies
- Demonstrated ability to identify, troubleshoot and optimize assays
- Demonstrated proficiency in documenting and maintaining an organized lab notebook, lab inventory and experimental results
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a team-first mindset and the ability to convey technical information
