Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to join our Rheumatology team at our Cambridge, MA office. The ideal candidate should be driven, experienced, collaborative, adaptable, and productive. They will support in vitro research efforts for our existing early-stage through late-stage discovery portfolio programs. Responsibilities include conducting, analyzing, and reporting on in vitro assays to explore key biological questions related to rheumatic diseases, such as RA, Systemic Sclerosis and Psoriatic Arthritis. The candidate should apply fundamental scientific principles to research and be skilled in laboratory techniques such as pipetting, cell culture, molecular biology and ELISA. In addition, a candidate with experience in fibroblast cultures and functional assays (proliferation, migration and invasion) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Scientific Research: Design and execute precise in vitro experiments to advance understanding of rheumatic disease biology.
  • Lab Techniques: Skillfully use methods like pipetting, cell culture, molecular biology, ELISA, fibroblasts functional assays (proliferation, migration, invasion) and flow cytometry to collect quality data.
  • Cell culture: Maintenance and expansion of primary cells. Experience in fibroblasts and macrophage differentiation protocols would be preferred.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret results accurately, creating reports and presentations to share with teams.
  • Protocol Development: Follow and adapt experimental protocols while implementing new methods as needed.
  • Lab Management: Maintain equipment and manage supplies to ensure efficient lab operations.
  • Literature Review: Review literature for insights that aid experimental design and contribute ideas.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-disciplinary teams, offering scientific expertise to drive project progress.
  • Documentation: Accurately maintain and update lab notebook and lab inventories of cell stocks, reagents etc.

Qualifications

  • Education/ Years of Experience: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology or a closely related discipline with typically 0-2+ years’ (MS) or 3-5+ (BS) years’ experience.
  • Professional Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in cell culture techniques with a strong grasp of molecular biology, including practical expertise in fibroblasts culture. Fibroblasts related functional assays and ELISA are strongly preferred.
  • Communication Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the capability to explain complex scientific ideas clearly and encourage collaborative dialogue.
  • Interpersonal Capabilities: Proven ability to thrive in a team-oriented setting, displaying strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Outstanding time management and organizational abilities, adept at handling multiple priorities and tasks effectively.
  • Learning Aptitude: A proactive and adaptable learner with the ability to independently generate and assess data, while quickly acquiring and applying new skills.
