Job summary

DTE Energy is seeking a Laboratory Technician in Michigan to prepare daily samples for analysis and conduct routine tests for plant operations. You will support environmental testing, calibrate equipment, and assist with reagents and standards preparation.

Emergency Response: Yes - Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Prepares daily samples for analysis, records data, and performs routine tests and studies. Prepares reagents and standards for chemical analyses and conducts routine environmental testing. This may include various wet chemistry techniques such as extractions, dilutions, hot plate, pipetting, along with the preparation and cleaning of glassware and work areas. Typical assignments are in the form of problem solving and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets. Performs a variety of technical work requiring application of scientific principles, techniques, and procedures.

Key Accountabilities
  • Performs calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Follows standard work instructions for technical tasks.
  • Prepares samples for analysis.
  • Actively participates in process improvement and safety efforts.
  • Uses Laboratory Information Management System (LIMs) for sample login and data entry.
  • Maintains accurate and complete lab data notebook, communicates precise and accurate results of analyses in accordance with prescribed lab procedures and systems.
  • Performs monitoring and testing of system performance by data collection or laboratory testing.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Individuals who will be obtaining their degree within nine months from submitting interest will be considered; however, verification of the degree will be required prior to starting the job.
Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's or Master of Science degree in Chemistry, bio-chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent.
  • Applied knowledge or experience with instrumentation or analyses such as ICP, GC, GC/MS, FT-IR, UVVis, Spectroscopy, Karl Fischer, TGA, XRF, BTU, Proximate, LECO, Calorimetry, lubrication and oil testing, viscosity, Flash Point, and other wet chemistry is a plus.
  • 6 months chemistry lab experience.
  • Experience working in a Power Plant or industrial environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Outlook)
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and able to prioritize a samples importance
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and laboratory operations
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company
  • Detail oriented individual
  • Compliant in both safe and environmental work practices
