Job summary

DTE Energy seeks a Regulatory Affairs professional to analyze policy dynamics and integrate regulatory strategies with corporate plans. You will advocate for the company's views before policymakers and coordinate cross-functional teams to execute strategic regulatory solutions.

The role requires a strong mathematical and legal mindset, with experience in regulatory policy, advocacy, and leadership across business units. Hybrid work and EMS-style collaboration are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is required.
  • Seven years of demonstrated effectiveness in regulatory/governmental areas.
  • Experience in policy development and regulatory strategy is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze regulatory and legislative policy dynamics to protect the company's interests.
  • Develop strategic positions and ensure alignment with leadership on regulatory strategy.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute regulatory and policy initiatives.
  • Engage with regulators and policymakers to advocate company views on policy and ratemaking.
  • Provide regulatory expertise to other business units and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of energy public policy at state and federal levels.
  • Coordinate strategy development processes and contribute to executive decision making.
  • Possibly complete FERC Gas training as required.

This role is hybrid, with an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be performed from an employee’s primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company’s remote work guidelines.

Emergency Response

Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary
  • Research and deliver fact-based analysis which is critical to the Company’s strategic business decisions to Regulatory Affairs management as well as DTE executive management. Integrate corporate, business unit, and regulatory strategies into cohesive, executable plans. Determine the impact proposed legislation and/or rulings will have toward current Company regulatory strategies. Become the Company’s advocate on pending issues before public policymakers and strive to build consensus around proposed strategic regulatory solutions.
Key Accountabilities
  • Issue analysis and corresponding development of strategic positions that integrate company and business unit regulatory strategies. Build a strategic direction consensus and ensure a purposeful, effective focus among the Company’s leadership team.
  • Develop competitive methodologies at the corporate and business unit levels that are equally sensitive priorities, as well as regulatory constraints.
  • Issue analysis of regulatory and legislative policy dynamics that protect the Company’s competitive interests, and will ultimately shape or lead policymakers’ opinions and agenda.
  • Maintain working knowledge of state-of-the-art structural and public economic issues to protect the Company’s interests as energy public policy evolves at both the state and federal-levels.
  • Provide expertise in regulatory matters to other company work units.
  • Create and maintain relationships with regulators and other policymakers to assure the Company retains a forum to advocate its viewson policy and ratemaking.
  • Lead cross functional teams as necessary in fulfilling the job accountabilities.
  • This position may require FERC Gas training.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, Finance, Public Administration or other related discipline.
  • Seven years of demonstrated effectiveness covering such areas as regulatory and governmental compliance, litigation, rates, corporate policy or corporate policy development based on regulatory rules
Other Qualifications
  • Master's degree in the aforementioned areas or Juris Doctorate degree

  • Working knowledge of the public policy development process.
  • Superior problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance to others.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to listen, synthesize, and process outside input.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Proficient verbal, nonverbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills in Microsoft applications primarily Powerpoint and Excel.
