Job summary

Amgen in Thousand Oaks is seeking an Associate Scientist - Cellular Assay Development, Functional Genomics. You will be part of a dynamic, cross-functional team advancing target and biological discovery across therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities include executing functional arrayed genomic screens, maintaining mammalian cell cultures, and optimizing assays for high-throughput screening, with emphasis on translational insights and collaboration across TD&B and automation.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree with relevant research experience in drug discovery.
  • OR Bachelor's degree with 3+ years in scientific discovery.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support functional arrayed genomic screens in advanced in vitro models.
  • Perform mammalian cell culture, transfection, transduction, and functional assays.
  • Optimize and miniaturize cell-based assays for high-throughput screening.
  • Leverage functional assays, especially high-content imaging, to profile cellular phenotypes.
  • Collaborate with TD&B and automation teams to accelerate model deployment.
  • Collaborate with therapeutic-area scientists to deliver translational insights.
  • Foster a collaborative and scientifically rigorous team culture.

What You Will Do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will be part of a dynamic, cross-functional team to advance target and biological discovery across Amgens therapeutic areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the execution of functional arrayed genomic screens inadvanced invitro modelsin collaboration with therapeutic area partners.
  • Carry out mammalian cell culture, transfection, transduction, and functional assays toenable functional, arrayedgenomic screens; experience with iPSC culture and differentiation preferred.
  • Optimizeand miniaturize cell-based assays for high-throughput automated screening.
  • Leverage functional assays, particularly high-content imaging,to profile cellular phenotypes and states.
  • Partner with TD&B and cross-functional team members, including automation colleagues, toaccelerate model deployment and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with Amgen therapeutic area scientists to define requirements, ensure biological relevance, and deliver systems that enable mechanistic and translational insights.
  • Foster a collaborative, creative, and scientifically rigorous team culture committed to delivering impact across Amgens pipeline.

Basic Qualifications

Masters degree and 1 year of scientific/drug discovery experience andtrack recordof scientific excellence and productivity

OR

Bachelors degree and 3 years of scientific/drug discovery experience andtrack recordof scientific excellence and productivity

Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S.degree in cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, or related discipline, or B.S. degree withcommensuratescientific/drug discovery experience andtrack recordof scientific excellence and productivity
  • Proficiencywith mammalian cell culture,including immortalized and primary linesrequired; experience with iPSC culture preferred
  • Experience with gene editing/delivery techniques,i.e.CRISPR/Cas9, lentiviral transduction, and transient transfection
  • Experience withcellularassay optimization and miniaturization;familiarity working with plate-based assays and associated equipment/automation
  • Strong hands-on experience with functional assays, particularly high-content imaging
  • Familiarity withhigh-throughputsreeningmetrics (e.g.Z,S/B, MSMR)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate disease biology into experimental models
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to drive cross-site collaboration in a matrixed research environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
