Job summary

Amgen is seeking an Associate Engineer I to provide process development support to manufacturing operations, potentially including mammalian cell culture and lab work to advance Amgen's pipeline. You will apply engineering and scientific principles to improve processes, troubleshoot manufacturing, and develop novel cell culture technologies to increase yield and robustness.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma / GED with 6 years scientific experience OR
  • Associate’s degree with 4 years of scientific experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2 years of experience in a Biotech/Pharma Process Development and/or Manufacturing Support role for drug substance manufacturing.
  • Understanding of cell culture processes, influence of raw material attributes, and impact of process deviations to growth and quality attributes.
  • Chemical engineering principles for scale up of unit operations from bench to commercial scale.
  • Able to apply engineering principles and statistical analysis, including DOE, to solve processing issues and evaluate improvements.
  • Chromatography, ultrafiltration and normal flow filtration experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; experience developing and managing training workflows.

ASSOCIATE ENGINEER I
What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will provide process development support to manufacturing operations and could also perform mammalian cell culture and lab activities to support the commercial development of the Amgen’s pipeline.

  • Apply fundamental scientific principles to Biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes (upstream cell culture) in the development of process improvements, facility adaptations, and new process operations.
  • Provide technical and on-the-floor support to assist in the troubleshooting of clinical and commercial drug substance manufacturing.
  • Support the GMP manufacturing process evaluations and investigations.
  • Develop novel mammalian cell culture and next generation technologies to increase yield, process robustness, and enable new unit operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 6 years of Scientific experience OR
  • Associate’s degree and 4 years of Scientific experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in a Biotech/Pharma Process Development and/or Manufacturing Support role for drug substance manufacturing.
  • Understanding of cell culture processes, influence of raw material attributes, and impact of process deviations to growth and quality attributes. Harvest and clarification processes used for mammalian cell culture processes.
  • Chemical engineering principles for the scale up of unit operations from bench scale to commercial scale.
  • Able to apply engineering principles and statistical analysis, including design of experiments, in-order to solve processing issues and evaluate opportunities for process improvements
  • Chromatography, ultrafiltration and normal flow filtration operations experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience developing and managing team training workflows and strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under moderate direction.
  • Able to analyze and interpret data
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to take on several projects at one time.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
