Job summary

Amgen seeks a Senior Scientist in Functional Genomics and High-Throughput Screening to translate data into discovery, building advanced in vitro models and scalable screening platforms across Amgen’s therapeutic areas.

You will work in a dynamic, cross-functional team, collaborating with automation and TD&B colleagues to accelerate model deployment, optimize protocols, and deliver robust biological insights for target discovery.

Qualifications

  • PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent in a life sciences field as listed in the basic qualifications.
  • Strong background in functional genomic screening and in vitro model systems.
  • Experience with genome engineering approaches and data-driven discovery is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with therapeutic area scientists to leverage cellular models and gene delivery methods to capture disease-relevant biology.
  • Design, optimize, and execute functional arrayed genomic screens in advanced in vitro models (e.g., iPSC-derived cells, organoids).
  • Partner with TD&B and automation colleagues to accelerate model deployment and reproducibility.
  • Identify and implement emerging technologies in high-content imaging and complex model systems to enhance discovery throughput.
  • Foster a collaborative, scientifically rigorous team culture delivering impact across Amgen’s pipeline.

Senior Scientist, Functional Genomics, High-Throughput Screening

What you will do

In this vital role you will partner closelyacrossAmgen’s therapeutic areas to translate data intodiscovery,accelerating the pathto target discovery and prosecution; focused ontheadaptationand implementation of complex invitro modelstopower target discovery and functional genomics efforts.

In this essential role for discovery at Amgen, you will be part of a dynamic, cross-functional team to advance target and biological discovery across Amgen’s therapeutic areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Amgen therapeutic area scientists toleverageappropriate cellularmodels, gene delivery methods, and perturbation techniques to capture disease-relevant biology.
  • Design,optimize,and executefunctionalarrayedgenomic screens inadvancedinvitro models(e.g.iPSC-derived cell types, co-cultures, primary cells, organoids, etc.)
  • Partner with TD&B and cross-functional team members, including automation colleagues, to accelerate model deployment and reproducibility.
  • Identifyand implement emerging technologies inhigh content imaging,cell engineering, automation, and complex model systems to enhance the sophistication and throughput of discovery platforms.
  • Foster a collaborative, creative, and scientifically rigorous team culture committed to delivering impact across Amgen’s pipeline.
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree PhD

OR

PharmD

OR

MD [and relevant post-doc where applicable]

OR

Master’s degree and 3 years of functional genomic screening experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of functional genomic screening experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degreein cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, or related discipline
  • Functional genomic screening experience; arrayed CRISPR (KO/i/a) and perturbation screening experience preferred; experience in high-throughput or automated screening preferred
  • Strongtrack recordin cell engineering and complex in vitro model development
  • Experience with viral vector systems (AAV, lentivirus, or related technologies) for gene delivery and perturbation
  • Experience with high-content imaging, automated microscopy, image analysis, feature reduction, andmultivariate analysis preferred
  • Familiarity withhigh-throughputscreening metrics (e.g.Z’,S/B, MSMR)
  • Cell culture experience; iPSC experience and work in complex in vitro cellular models preferred
  • Experience with bioinformatics and computational analyses to harness meaningful results from genome-wide datasets
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate disease biology into experimental models
  • Familiarity with data-driven discovery approaches, including integration of genetic or multi-omics insights
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to drive cross-site collaboration in a matrixed research environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
