Description

Chapin Hall is seeking an Associate Researcher (Data Analytics and Visualization) to work on project teams engaged in empirical, analytical, and conceptual child and family welfare research in Illinois. The Associate Researcher's main contribution will be managing, linking, analyzing, and presenting project data using large-scale administrative child welfare datasets, including visualization when appropriate. The role requires developing, maintaining, and refining project codes using programming languages to support multiple research projects.


This individual will transform raw administrative data into formats suitable for analysis, participate in study design discussions, and perform modeling and statistical analyses using R, Python, SQL/PostgreSQL, STATA, QGIS, VBA, and/or other software. Experience in survey design and software such as RedCap is preferred. The Associate Researcher will also participate in meetings with external stakeholders and contribute to research publications and reports.


Chapin Hall offers a "Work from Anywhere" approach with flexible remote work across the U.S., along with in-person opportunities for team building and collaboration. Staff are expected to attend at least two annual 2-day "All Hall Convenings".


POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Convert, merge, and assemble large-scale administrative data using R, Python, SQL/PostgreSQL, QGIS, STATA, VBA, or other software.
  • Develop and maintain scripts to transform data into analyzable formats, emphasizing reproducibility and documentation.
  • Automate data processes, follow best coding practices, and support ETL pipeline maintenance.
  • Perform modeling, complex analyses, and visualizations under supervision.
  • Contribute to study design, including sampling and data collection procedures.
  • Assist in qualitative research and survey design, managing and analyzing survey data.
  • Write research results for funders and publications, including formatting and visualization.
  • Manage multiple priorities and requests, and participate in stakeholder meetings and conferences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A master's degree in relevant fields or a bachelor's plus 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing research projects, supporting quality improvement, and working with client subject matter experts.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, SQL/PostgreSQL, STATA, QGIS, and/or similar languages.
  • Experience with RedCap or similar survey software.
  • Experience with GIT and statistical methodology.
  • Ability to communicate research findings clearly and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and handle sensitive information discreetly.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
