Job summary

Anoka County Sheriff's Office seeks a Temporary Associate Registered Nurse, Correctional Health to join a dedicated nursing team in a fast-paced, correctional setting. You’ll provide direct and indirect care across intake, sick calls, chronic care, and emergencies, managing medications and coordinating external services.

This on-site role supports 24/7 jail operations with 8- and 12-hour shifts and a minimum of four shifts per month, including one weekend.

Qualifications

• Requires an associate degree in health care or related discipline.
• Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
• Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle available for business use.
• Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet inmates’ psychological, physical, and mental health needs.
• Coordinate and administer medication and treatment to inmates as assigned.
• Consult with the interdisciplinary health care team to coordinate treatment efforts.

Position Description

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) invites you to consider joining our team as a Temporary Associate Registered Nurse, Correctional Health where you'll become part of a dedicated, tight knit nursing team committed to delivering exceptional care in a complex correctional setting. This role is fast paced and offers the opportunity to provide meaningful care every day. You'll use your clinical judgment and steady presence to make a real difference.

The Anoka County Jail nursing team is known for its professionalism, teamwork, and compassion - and you'll be an essential contributor to that mission. As the Associate RN you will provide clinical care across intake, sick call, chronic care, and emergency situations. Your responsibilities include managing medications, coordinating external healthcare services, maintaining accurate medical records, and carrying out medical orders.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the psychological, physical, and mental health needs of inmates.
• Coordinate and administer medication and treatment to inmates as assigned.
• Consult with the interdisciplinary health care team to coordinate treatment efforts for individual care plans.
• Perform assessments of inmates under the coordination of the interdisciplinary health care team in settings such as intake/booking, sick call, chronic care, medical unit, and emergencies throughout the facility.
• Implement nursing care and medical orders in a knowledgeable, safe, and responsible manner.
• Maintain all medical records related to health and medical screening and medical treatment administered to inmates while incarcerated.
• Promote and demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Provide on-call coverage consistent with facility policies and standards.

Temp, Part-Time, Non-Exempt, On-Site

This temporary Associate Registered Nurse role gives you the flexibility to choose when you work‑only four shifts per month, including one weekend‑while still making a meaningful impact. In this position, you'll deliver essential care, support critical health needs, and help keep the facility running safely and smoothly through skilled assessments, medication management, accurate documentation, and clear communication.

Pay & Benefits

Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 34: $74,214 to $103,896 ($35.68 to $49.95 per hour).

Work Location

This position will work at the Anoka County Jail, located at 325 Jackson Street, Anoka, MN 55303.

Expected work hours

The Jail is staffed 24/7, we are looking to fill all shifts with a combination of 8‑ and 12‑hour shifts.

Minimum of 4 shifts per month, including 1 weekend per month.

Qualifications And Requirements

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

• Requires an associate degree in health care or related discipline.
• In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
• Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
• Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.
• Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Needed

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field.
• Previous Registered Nurse working experience.
• Previous correctional health or similar experience.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Standard office environment, correctional and detention institutions, field offices, courtrooms, offender'/clients' homes, hospitals and schools, and various community settings depending on assignment.

Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment.

Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness.

Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.

Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and handling/carrying medical equipment.

Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.

Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to medical equipment.

Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious agents, toxic or caustic chemicals, airborne particles, fumes, or other hazards is possible while performing essential duties.
