Job summary

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office seeks a Temporary Licensed Practical Nurse (Correctional Health) to provide comprehensive nursing care in a fast-paced jail setting. You will handle intake, sick calls, chronic care, and emergencies while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

The role requires an MN-licensed LPN with at least 2 years of related experience, plus a background check. Shifts include 8- and 12-hour options with 4 shifts per month and occasional weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.
• Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
• Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation.
• Previous correctional health or similar experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the psychological, physical, and mental health needs of inmates.
• Order, administer, and/or distribute prescribed medications as directed.
• Prepare written records and reports and update charts containing information on treatments and procedures administered and observations regarding their condition.
• Implement nursing care and medical orders in a knowledgeable, safe, and responsible manner.
• Maintain all medical records related to health and medical screening and medical treatment administered to inmates while incarcerated.
• Consult with the interdisciplinary health care team to coordinate treatment forts for individual care plans.
• Promote and demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Provide on-call coverage consistent with facility policies and standards.

Position Description

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) invites you to consider joining our team as a Temporary Licensed Practical Nurse, Correctional Health where you’ll become part of a dedicated, tight knit nursing team committed to delivering exceptional care in a complex correctional setting. This role is fast paced and offers the opportunity to provide meaningful care every day. You’ll use your clinical judgment and steady presence to make a real difference. The Anoka County Jail nursing team is known for its professionalism, teamwork, and compassion — and you’ll be an essential contributor to that mission. As an LPN you will provide clinical care across intake, sick call, chronic care, and emergency situations.

Pay & Benefits

Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $64,480.00 to $90,230.40 annually ($31.00 to $43.38 per hour). Advancement/professional development opportunities.

Work Location

This position will work at the Anoka County Jail, located at 325 Jackson Street, Anoka, MN 55303. Expected work hours: The Jail is staffed 24/7, we are looking to fill all shifts with a combination of 8- and 12-hour shifts. Minimum of 4 shifts per month, including 1 weekend per month.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.
• In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
• Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
• Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation.
• Previous correctional health or similar experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

• Standard office environment, correctional institution.
• Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment.
• Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.
• Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers.
• Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
• Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and handling/carrying medical equipment.
• Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
• Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to medical equipment.
• Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious agents, toxic or caustic chemicals, airborne particles, fumes, or other hazards is possible while performing essential duties.
