Job Description

Seeking an Associate Quantity Surveyor (PQS) to join a leading Construction Consultancy. Hays Property and Surveying are seeking an Associate Quantity Surveyor (PQS) to join a leading construction consultancy based in Winchester. The company is a multidisciplinary construction consultancy with offices across the UK.

They provide a range of services including Building Surveying, Cost Consultancy, Project Management, and Civils and Design, working with clients in the Public and Private Sectors. Their Winchester Cost Consultancy department is dedicated to delivering high-quality quantity surveying and construction cost management services across sectors such as residential development, life sciences, education, local government, affordable housing, and not-for-profit organisations. They are now seeking an experienced Associate Quantity Surveyor (PQS) to join the team.

Your New Role

As an Associate Quantity Surveyor, your focus will be on working within the Cost Management / Contract Administration Team, specifically on a £1bn major life sciences project involving a large research and development centre, educational facilities, laboratories, and meeting spaces. The project is delivered across two JCT contracts, currently in the initial stages of RIBA 4, with a timeline of approximately 3 years. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Leading the change process, validating changes, and coordinating with the respective package PM/QS within contractual timescales.
  2. Administering contracts and ensuring all parties understand their obligations.
  3. Chairing meetings with the contractor's commercial team.
  4. Managing contract communications and facilitating communication among stakeholders.
  5. Tracking progress, monitoring contractor performance, and ensuring contractual compliance.
  6. Resolving disputes and claims between parties.
  7. Maintaining accurate contract records of all activities, including correspondence, meetings, inspections, and payments.
What You'll Need to Succeed
  • A degree in a relevant construction discipline, such as Quantity Surveying.
  • MRICS qualification is preferred.
  • Strong experience in contract administration and construction cost management.
  • Experience in the life sciences sector is desirable.
  • A proven track record within a construction consultancy or quantity surveying practice.
  • Proficient knowledge of JCT contracts.
