POSITION OVERVIEW

The prime objective of the Quality Supervisor is to drive the Plant’s quality practices and issues seeking to optimize production, reduce costs while preserving and/or enhancing the safety, quality, and environmental practices. Ensure employees working in the laboratory understand and follow the Continental Cement Company’s Quality Management System. Supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Quality Manager reports to the Plant Manager. The position supervises the Lab Supervisor. Below are responsibilities/accountabilities for the Quality Manager:

  • Monitoring and continuous improvement of the safety plan within the department. Lead the implementation of new and revised departmental safety procedures.
  • Leads the inspection and monitoring of the safety for the Quality department.
  • Quality Management System representative for the plant.
  • Ensures all KPI’s written in the quality contract.
  • Ensuring processes for the QMS are established, implemented, and maintained.
  • Ensuring the Plant Leadership Team is aware of the performance of the QMS and any need for improvement.
  • Control of all QMS documents for the Plant.
  • Control and retention of quality records.
  • Review of all non-conformances created at the Plant.
  • Coordinates between the plant, sales, technical services and/or customers.
  • Hosting quarterly quality (Q2) meetings.
  • Reporting of all quality testing data.
  • Initiates internal audits of the QMS.
  • Trouble shooting and guidance for, operating, quality and mechanical aspects of all related equipment.
  • Writing daily instructions for operating personnel and supervisors and ensuring that the instructions are clear.
  • The establishment and follow up of equipment operating procedures and practices as well as required training.
  • All day-to-day production activities. Act as a liaison between the production, maintenance, process, quarry, and environmental departments on a daily basis and continually maintain open communication.
  • Encourage and sustain teamwork and a cooperative spirit within and between departments.
  • Key communicator within the Plant Management Team.
  • Operation of the kiln, raw mill and finish mill systems as it relates to operating set points and procedures, quality control targets, troubleshooting and automation in conjunction with the other departments.
  • Responsible for the Quality Department budget, taking an active role in control of the costs so the budgetary constraints are met.
  • Ensures the results reported by the laboratory are accurate and precise through standard testing and calibrations.
  • Coordinates trials of different grinding aids, sulfur additions, raw materials, or cement additives.
  • Purchasing and creating purchase orders through Maximo or equivalent purchasing program for all laboratory supplies, laboratory equipment, raw material services, and grinding aid.
  • Coordinates plant activities and on-goings to Quality Dept. in weekly meetings.
  • Provides on-call support for the plant.
  • Coordinates the raw materials that are sent to the plant for use and for review.
  • Optimize the raw mix design for optimal quality, production, and cost and test and certify materials.
  • Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.

The jobholder is accountable for the performance and results of all direct and indirect reports. Essential duties include setting employee performance objectives, conducting performance reviews and recommending pay action.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with cross belt analyzers.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative based on sound problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through personal standards of conduct, work ethics, ability to delegate, etc.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets technical documents.
  • Leadership capabilities with supervisory/managerial career aspirations.
  • Flexible team player with strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with human and technical adverse situations.
  • Strong computer literacy with various software programs.
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members and external agencies.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to comply with all applicable federal / state / industry compliance, record keeping, regulations and standards.
  • Due to the nature of this position, it is essential that the teammate be available to report to the designated work site / office and be ready to begin work when scheduled, including the ability to travel 10% with or without notice.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
