Under the general direction of a Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) II, the Associate Property Auditor Appraiser (APAA) in the Assessment Practices Survey Division (APSD) serves as a member of a survey team that reviews the assessment practices and procedures of County Assessors’ offices for compliance with property tax laws and rules. The incumbent focuses on issues involving the taxation of business and personal property. The incumbent also conducts audits and reviews appraisals as part of an assessment sampling program.

Under the direct supervision of a Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) II, the Assistant Property Auditor Appraiser (AsPAA) in the Assessment Practices Survey Division (APSD) serves as a member of a survey team that reviews the assessment practices and procedures of County Assessors' offices for compliance with California property tax laws and rules. The incumbent focuses on issues involving the taxation of personal property and fixtures of commercial or industrial firms. The incumbent also conducts compliance or financial audits and appraisals to ensure statewide uniformity with statewide provisions.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for full or part-time telework for eligible candidates residing in California.

Working Conditions

  • Telework is available fifty percent (50%) of the time.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods of time.
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport records and business equipment weighing up to forty (40 lbs.) pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Travel required fifty percent (50%) of the time.

  • Overnight travel throughout the State may be required up to fifty percent (50%) of the time by automobile and airplane; travel will typically be Monday through Friday and span several contiguous weeks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
