Job description

Associate Professor - Transdisciplinary Research Initiative in Inflammaging & Aging (TRIBA)

The Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure-track position within the new Transdisciplinary Research Initiative in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA). The candidate's research expertise should align with or complement existing research in aging-related disciplines. The successful candidate will establish an innovative, independent research program capable of attracting extramural funding from agencies such as the NIH, private foundations, and industry.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a successful research program, aiming to secure NIH R01 or RF1 grants or equivalent, with direct costs of $200,000 - $300,000 annually for up to 4-5 years; from Year 4 onward, the expectation is to lead at least one major grant with laboratory direct costs exceeding $400K/year.
  • Participate in teaching at the Medical College of Georgia and/or the Graduate School.
Required Qualifications

All faculty should be Board Eligible or Certified, holding an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree. The candidate should have at least five years of experience at the Assistant Professor rank or comparable training and background. To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must have achieved tenure at a prior institution, possess a national reputation, and be appointed as an associate or full professor.

Additional employment qualifications include:

  • Compliance with SACSCOC accreditation standards;
  • Evidence of teaching ability;
  • Research activity and scholarly achievements;
  • Successful professional experience, with waivers for recent entrants;
  • Personal qualities assessed via interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in biomedical disciplines from an accredited institution; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven human research experience with publications and extramural funding.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This full-time position operates year-round with a 1.0 FTE. Salary is commensurate with experience and achievements, subject to funding availability. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options, and more. Employees with over 6 months of employment may be eligible for Tuition Assistance.

The rank and salary are determined at hire, considering experience, credentials, and market data.
