Summary of Job Duties:

The Position: The College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites nominations and applications for an Associate Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation. The Associate Professor of Exercise Science is a 9-month, tenured, full-time faculty position. The successful candidate will complement or add to existing strengths within the Exercise Science Program and the College of Education and Health Professions. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate both synergy with existing teaching strengths and a commitment to promoting a culture of research excellence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the tenured Associate Professor of Exercise Science include pursuing their established research agenda, securing external funding, mentoring and assisting early-career faculty in pursuing external funding opportunities, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at professional conferences; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Exercise Science; supervising theses, dissertations, and honors projects; mentoring/advising both undergraduate and graduate students; and providing service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.

The faculty member is responsible for fulfilling the core academic functions of teaching, scholarship/research/ creative activity, and service in support of the University’s mission. This is an in-person position. On-campus presence is an essential function of this position. Extensive in-person engagement in activities such as office hours, student advising, collaborative work, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is required to advance student success, departmental effectiveness, and the mission of the college and the university. Through teaching, research, and service, this position supports the University’s 150 Forward priorities of student success, research excellence, and an employer-of-choice environment.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Exercise Science or related field
  • An established research agenda. The area of research inquiry is open, but focal areas include the following: metabolic health, cardiac physiology, respiratory physiology, molecular signaling, female-specific physiology, or multi-omics
  • Evidence of sustained and ongoing exemplary research as evidenced by external funding, refereed peer-reviewed publications, and presentations
  • Dedicated commitment and competence in teaching and instruction, as evidenced by effective teaching and student mentorship
  • Evidence of participation in productive service to the department, college, university, and profession
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary research bridging exercise science, health, and education
  • Strong desire to mentor early-career faculty in developing strategies for external funding

This position is a Designated Research Position and is regulated by the Arkansas Research Education Protection Act of 2025.
