Candidates must possess an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree, with a successful research record appropriate for their career stage. Board certification or eligibility in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine and Adolescent Medicine is strongly preferred.
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a key partner in the Penn Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), and the Division of Adolescent Medicine is a central research hub for CFAR. The Penn CFAR includes the University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Wistar Institute, with a community of approximately 150 faculty members across various scientific disciplines and around $50 million in annual NIH HIV/AIDS research funding.
Teaching responsibilities may include inpatient and outpatient clinical duties, involving medical students, residents, and fellows, at multiple practice sites including primary care, specialty care satellite locations, inpatient units at CHOP, and a behavioral health hospital. Candidates with a PhD only will not have clinical responsibilities.
Research responsibilities focus on adolescent or young adult health research related to HIV prevention or care, potentially intersecting with areas such as STIs, sexual/gender minority youth, substance use, mental health, health disparities, parent-teen relationships, community-engaged research, and others. Faculty are expected to develop and lead a funded research program and actively participate in the Penn CFAR community. Opportunities for leadership roles, such as Co-Director of the CFAR Clinical Core for the Adolescent/Pediatric component, are available. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research record and emerging or established national reputation. Collaborative research opportunities include education, quality improvement, health services, disparities, resiliency, and various health issues.
