Job summary

Chromalloy in Carson City, Nevada is seeking an Associate Coating Engineer to support APS coating development and production. You will lead new programs, deploy upgraded equipment, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing with a focus on process maturity and KPIs.

Your role involves collaboration with engineering, operations, and QA to optimize designs, solve technical challenges, and mentor junior staff. Travel occasionally to support site initiatives and capital projects.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering; 0–2 years in manufacturing preferred.
• Strong interest in learning coating technologies.
• Experience with CMM, white-light/laser scanning, gages, or related metrology is preferred.
• Familiarity with FAA PMA and RS-DER guidelines is a plus.
• Excellent program management and communication skills.

We're looking for an Associate Coating Engineer to assist in the technical and production support, development, and optimization of Air Plasma Spray (APS) coating processes for aerospace and industrial gas turbine components. You'll lead new program development, deploy upgraded equipment, drive continuous improvement, and partner across engineering on process maturity, NPI, and capital projects at the site.

What You'll Do

• Drive process capability and maturity for APS coatings, optimizing production and product designs through lean problem-solving with measurable KPI impact.
• Develop new APS programs — including robotic programming (FANUC preferred), tooling, and qualification.
• Lead equipment upgrade and continuous improvement projects end-to-end
• Own assigned components and processes from concept through manufacturing; troubleshoot issues, implement solutions, and monitor sustainability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally on designs and repairs that meet cost, performance, and durability targets.
• Prepare technical reports, specs, and procedures; present to internal and external audiences and mentor less experienced staff. Occasional travel required.

What You Bring

• BS in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace preferred) with 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• High interest to learn coating technologies
• Experience with CMM, white-light/laser scanning, gages, and other measurement techniques is preferred
• Robotic programming and optimization (FANUC) is preferred
• Knowledge of gas turbine manufacturing processes (preferred), along with finite element analysis, and 3D CAD modeling experience is preferred
• Knowledge of metallurgical lab methods and ability to interpret engineering drawings and specs is preferred
• Familiarity with FAA PMA and RS-DER guidelines preferred.
• Strong program management and communication skills.
