The Associate Producer will work closely with the Managing Producer to transform interviews and features into a vibrant digital presence and to manage the daily live video stream.

This non-exempt role reports to the Managing Producer and involves pitching and producing segments, monitoring social trends, and collaborating with the digital news team.

ASSOCIATE PRODUCER, NTX NOW

POSITION SUMMARY

KERA is seeking a full-time Associate Producer to lead the video, digital and social media strategy for its new daily (Monday-Friday) local news magazine, NTX Now. The Associate Producer will work closely with the Managing Producer to transform interviews, stories and features from the show into a vibrant digital presence aimed at building audience and extending the show’s life beyond the daily broadcasts. The Associate Producer will manage the daily live video stream and create video content from the stream to post on social channels. Along with the rest of the team, the Associate Producer will regularly pitch and produce segments.

This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt and is not eligible for overtime. The role reports directly to the Managing Producer, NTX Now.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Guide the show’s video stream. This includes operating the video switcher to feed an eventual live stream of NTX Now as well as cutting video from the stream to feed social reels, stories, etc. during and after the live broadcast.
• Coordinate with Managing Editor, KERA News and NTX Now’s Managing Producer to bring KERA News reporting into the show and in turn spin show segments back out into news content.
• Manage the NTX Now digital presence and home page, including creatively translating on-air content into web posts that serve a digital audience across KERA platforms.
• Mange NTX Now social channels, including the creation of multiple daily posts turned from that day’s show.
• Work with Live Producer to create social/digital content from live show events.
• Contribute to NTX Now’s overall editorial presence by regularly pitching and producing guest segments.
• Serve as the show’s eyes and ears on social media. This includes keeping a close eye on North Texas influencers and other social media content that could make its way onto the show and being aware of social media trends that the show might intersect with.
• Work with the extended KERA digital news team on larger projects and serve as occasional backup help to cover for vacations and other PTO.
• Maintain the highest editorial standards of accuracy, ethics, and balance.
• Identify diverse voices in coverage online and on the air.
• Represent KERA and NTX Now at professional and public events as assigned.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL

• A minimum of 2 to 5 years in journalism, content creation or relevant experience.
• Ability to quickly produce and edit video for social media during and after live broadcast.
• Knowledge of social media best practices and trends
• Ability to juggle multiple projects/priorities on deadline.
• Experience in video and audio production and editing.
• Strong writing skills.
• Strong content editing/proofreading skills, including knowledge of AP style.
• Ability to exercise sound news judgment and follow KERA/NPR ethics and editorial standards.
• A passion for public media and serving a diverse audience.
• Strong collaboration skills.

• Knowledge of North Texas people, cultures, issues and geography as well as national and international issues and events
• Working knowledge of Spanish and/or other languages common in Texas
• Previous live radio production experience

SALARY RANGE

$57,000 - $67,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

LOCATION

We expect that this position will work out of our Dallas office at least 80% of the time. (Equivalent to 32 hours per week)

Time in office requirements are subject to change based on the needs of KERA and/or the position.
