Slate Magazine seeks a versatile associate producer to help create daily news podcasts What Next and What Next: TBD. The role blends pitching, booking, prepping, recording, writing, editing and mixing, with mentorship and room to grow.

Remote work is possible for the right candidate, with base pay between $75,000 and $81,000. You’ll report to a supervising producer and collaborate across teams to craft episodes, refine scripts, and secure guests.

Qualifications

• At least two years’ experience in radio or podcasting in a journalistic environment.
• Two+ years with professional audio-editing software (prefer Pro Tools).
• Demonstrated ability with video-production software (DaVinci or Adobe Premiere).
• Excellent writing skills and story sense.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with host and producer team to conceive and develop episodes.
• Implement script notes quickly and sensitively.
• Pull tape and images for audio and video edits.
• Arrange interviews and oversee recording sessions, including remote connections.
• Engage in episode mixing, including scoring, sound design, and audio correction.
• Interview and/or preinterview sources.
• Book guests, stringers, and studios.
• Prepare interview briefs for hosts.
• Assemble mixes of episodes or intros in Pro Tools and/or DaVinci Resolve.
• Fact-check scripts.
• Edit clips for social media and promotions.
• Attend production and editorial meetings.
• Provide general editorial feedback and administrative support to producers.
