Free People in Philadelphia seeks a skilled Print Designer to create and execute in-house prints for Collection Femme and Only @ FP. You will translate fashion trends into original prints, working closely with the design director and buying teams to drive retail and wholesale successes.

You will utilize traditional drawing and Adobe Creative Suite to build layouts, colorways, and CADs, while sourcing vintage textiles and staying ahead of trend cycles in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in textile/surface design or related field.
  • 3–4 years design industry experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Free People customer and fashion trends.
  • Hands-on with hand drawing and digital rendering.

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and execute prints for Free People collections.

Job description

  • Create, develop, and execute own-brand prints for Free People’s Collection Femme and Only @ FP categories.
  • Assist in creating original, repeat, conversational, engineered-placement, and apparel-driven prints.
  • Work collaboratively with the design director, design, and buying teams for retail and wholesale divisions.
  • Attend and actively participate in design flow meetings.
  • Use traditional drawing, painting, arts and crafts techniques, and Adobe Creative Suite to create artwork, layouts, and colorways.
  • Collaborate with product development and technical designers to set up engineered prints.
  • Create print layouts and provide colorways aligned with specific color palettes.
  • Conduct research and develop print designs to realize the Print Director’s vision.
  • Source vintage textiles, prints, and digital image libraries for inspiration.
  • Track fashion trends related to print and color and incorporate them into artwork.
  • Generate CADs showing print placement on garments.
  • Create technical artwork packages for vendors and factories.
  • Maintain organized file folders using established naming conventions.
  • Keep the office and workspace tidy and organized.
  • Manage deadlines and contribute to the growth of a dynamic team.
  • 4-5 days in office Philadelphia PA - Home Office Navy Yard.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Design, Surface Design, Fine Art, Illustration, or related experience required.
  • 3-4 Years Design industry or related experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong sense and understanding of the Free People Customer and how Fashion Trends could translate to new and exciting designs.
  • Ability to identify new trends and how those can relate to print designs.
  • Strong sense of technical print design, understanding and passion for surface design and making of repeat prints.
  • Experience in print and textile design with a strong foundation of hand drawing/painting and digital rendering.
  • Technical skills in Adobe Creative Suite and NedGraphics (preferred).
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to explore creatively using AI platforms.
  • Knowledge/experience with MidJourney and PromeAi would be a plus.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Self-starter with the ability to function independently as well as in a team-based environment.
  • Great attention to detail, strong sense of urgency and ability to thrive in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and proactiveness, great communication skills and ability to multitask.
  • 4-5 days in office Philadelphia PA - Home Office Navy Yard.
