Job Description
Principal Duties
  • Provide secretarial services to the principal and associate principals.
  • Establish and maintain files for the principal and school office.
  • Interact positively on a daily basis with parents, volunteers, visitors, students and staff, providing excellent customer service.
  • Revise and edit school/principal publications and correspondence.
  • Maintain school displays.
  • Supervise students in the office area.
  • Prepare necessary district and state reports.
  • Organize large school events, including assemblies, open house and commencement.
  • Keep deadlines.
  • Handle paperwork involved with payroll, substitute teachers, data processing, printing and graphics.
  • Provide support to staff as needed (keys, substitutes, time requests, short term contracts, etc.)
  • Prepare and act as editor for school newsletter, building and student calendar and weekly staff communications.
  • Support and organize after school activities as needed.
  • Other duties as may be assigned or developed.
Classification

Secretarial/Clerical Group E

Eight (8) hours per day. Twelve (12) months.

Preparation, Experience, Skills
  • Knowledge in the operation of computers—word processing, database, spreadsheet applications and e‑mail. Fluency in Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to use Infinite Campus, Time Clock Manager, Frontline.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and initiate responsibility.
  • Successful experience in a responsible secretarial position working with large numbers of students, parents and staff.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Knowledge of office machines—fax, scanner and copy machine.
  • Telephone skills that are polite, tactful and efficient.
  • Proficiency in typing and other office skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility.
  • Ability to work with staff, students and the public.
  • Capability of representing the school in a professional manner, maintaining confidentiality, communication skills and appropriate dress.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.

The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the building including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising students during indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when necessary.
