Job summary

Pennington Partners invites an Associate Portfolio Manager to join our team serving Operating Partner Families across the United States. You will work with Portfolio Managers to deliver tailored wealth solutions, collaborating with client relationship teams, and integrating investment management with tax and estate planning.

The role emphasizes clear communication, disciplined follow-through, and sound judgment in serving high-net-worth clients within a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; a graduate degree in finance, business, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Progressing toward a CFA, CPWA, CEPA, or CAIA certification.
  • 3–5 years of experience in finance, ideally at a private investment firm, registered investment advisor, family office, or investment research consultancy.
  • Familiarity with alternative investments (private equity, private credit, hedge funds, real assets) and multi-asset portfolio construction.
  • Working knowledge of income tax planning concepts and their intersection with investment strategy.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present sophisticated ideas in plain language to non-technical clients.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • High degree of discretion and professionalism when working with high-net-worth individuals and families.

Responsibilities

  • Support a Portfolio Manager and partners closely with the Client Relationship team to deliver a seamless, coordinated client experience to Operating Partner Families, drawing on deep knowledge of asset classes, investment vehicles, and market trends.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of each family's financial objectives, risk tolerance, and values, and help design and implement tailored wealth plans that integrate investment management, income tax planning, and estate planning strategies.
  • Coordinate with outside CPAs, family accountants, and internal teams — including investments, operations, estate planning, and compliance — to ensure seamless execution across all client activities.
  • Monitor existing investments for compliance with client investment policy statements and the terms of each investment, while staying current on market developments, regulatory changes, and emerging trends.
  • Contribute to portfolio-level initiatives led by the investment committee, including research into new alternative investment strategies and asset allocation analysis.
  • Support income tax planning efforts to help families minimize liabilities and maximize after-tax wealth.
  • Leverage relationships with general partners and investment professionals to monitor fund developments; design reports to track markets and portfolio activity; and assist in developing agendas for investment conferences and firm events.
  • Take on special projects and other assignments as the needs of the firm and clients evolve.

About the Position

What You'll Do
