Job summary

Maersk in Hesperia, CA is seeking an Associate People Partner to serve as the front-line HR presence for the site. You will partner with facility leaders and frontline colleagues to resolve day-to-day people matters, ensure consistent policy application, and support onboarding and offboarding processes on site.

This role emphasizes employee relations, performance management, wage and hour compliance, and training.

Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish required; strong HR foundation and ethics.
• Union experience with frontline and represented staff is required.
• Bachelor's degree in HR/Business/Organizational Development or related field; certification preferred (CPHR).

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for employee matters, including leave, harassment, investigations, and terminations.
• Conduct investigations, gather statements and recommend next steps.
• Ensure wage and hour compliance and accurate postings.
• Support policy implementation and department goals across site operations.
• Oversee performance management processes and corrective actions.
• Coach managers on employee-related issues and succession planning.
• Coordinate headcount planning and temporary staffing with facility leaders.
• Assist in developing HR-focused policies and training programs.
• Handle offboarding procedures and exit interviews; support EEOC hearings as needed.

The Role

As an Associate People Partner, you will be the front-line HR presence for your assigned locations in Hesperia, CA. You will partner directly with facility leaders, frontline colleagues, and union-represented employees to resolve day-to-day people matters and bring consistency to how our policies are applied on the ground. This role sits at the center of employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, compliance, and onboarding and offboarding — a strong opportunity for an HR professional who wants breadth, visibility, and real operational impact. You will work on-site, close to the people you support, and your work will directly shape the colleague experience at our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for employee matters including harassment concerns, wage and hour questions, leaves of absence, injuries, onboarding, terminations, attendance, investigations, and disciplinary actions
• Conduct employee investigations, gather witness statements, and make recommendations regarding next steps
• Ensure compliance with state and federal wage and hour laws, including required signage and postings
• Support the implementation of department and company goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
• Manage company-wide performance management processes, including Performance Improvement Plans and corrective actions
• Provide coaching and support to managers on employee-related issues
• Partner with facility leaders to strategically manage headcount and temporary staffing needs
• Contribute to the creation and implementation of HR-focused and company-wide policies and procedures
• Support managers with termination paperwork, exit interviews, and the offboarding process
• Represent the company in unemployment, wage and hour, and EEOC hearings
• Support company-wide harassment prevention and employee development training programs
• Conduct audits to safeguard data integrity, and create and evaluate HR reports
• Keep organization charts current and accurate
• Advise employees and management on the interpretation of HR policies, programs, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
• Take on tasks and duties of a strategic nature and scope as required

• Bilingual in Spanish (required)
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field
• Union experience, as this role supports frontline and union-represented colleagues (required)
• HR Certification (CPHR) highly desired
• Working knowledge of Workday, ADP, or equivalent HRIS highly desired
• Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook
• Sound judgment, professionalism under pressure, dependability, and the ability to delegate, explain your reasoning, and involve the right people in decisions

This role is performed on-site and requires the ability to move throughout the facility, including navigating staircases, and to lift or move up to 50 pounds on occasion.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $70,304 to $80,000

Benefits: Full time employees are eligible for Health Insurance, Paid Time Off, and 401k Match.

The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for this position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
