Job summary

Harper Evangelical Free Church in Washington is seeking a full-time pastor/secular ministry leader to support the senior pastor in daily duties and to oversee multiple ministry teams. The role includes preaching occasionally, shepherding through pastoral care, and developing leaders across the church.

You will collaborate with staff to manage events, budgets, and membership processes while fostering growth and outreach within the Harper Church community.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the senior pastor on day-to-day responsibilities, including praying, planning, and executing ministry needs.
• Oversee and empower ministries and teams such as Small Groups and Men’s Ministry.
• Lead Deacon meetings and assist staff in ministry and operations.
• Assist in preaching on Sundays (6–12 times per year).
• Provide encouragement to the elderly and shut-ins as part of pastoral care.
• Disciple and grow the body of Christ through vision and teaching.

Job description

This person should be competent in these key ministry responsibilities:

Ministry Oversight and Collaboration

• Collaborate with the senior pastor regarding day-to-day responsibilities (praying, planning, and executing assorted needs and ministries)


• Oversee and empower various ministries and teams (e.g. Small Groups and Men’s Ministry)


• Oversee and lead Deacon meetings


• Assist other staff members in ministry and operational matters


• Assist in preaching Sunday mornings (6-12x a year)

Pastoral Care

• Embrace our vision for ministry and pass it on to those you serve


• Enfold visitors into Harper Church through our membership process


• Disciple and grow the body of Christ


• Provide encouragement to the elderly and shut-ins


• Perform occasional weddings and funerals

Leadership Development

• Build relationships across the church to identify potential leaders


• Employ discernment when recruiting leaders


• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to improve the training of key leaders

Events Coordination

• Recruit and organize volunteers for Sunday morning and occasionally as needed


• Oversee specific annual functions that serve our church family


• Coordinate with other ministry leads to accomplish church-wide functions

Administrative Responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Pastor with evaluating and adjusting annual budgets alongside the administrative assistant and finance board chairman


• Plan and prepare semiannual membership meetings


• Assist the Property Board Chairman with prioritizing facilities improvement projects


• Oversee the membership process and maintain membership records

Relationships

• Accountable to the Senior Pastor


• Collaborate with various staff for church wide functions


• Assist Staff/Volunteers to run the Sunday services with excellence
