Job description

Associate, Operational & Technical Accounting

We are the better way to work in finance. As a private‑equity value‑creation partner, we sit at the heart of PE where sponsors and CFOs meet. Through financial consulting rooted in data, technology, and AI, we help clients drive value—supporting the office of the CFO to drive end‑to‑end value creation.

Operational & Technical Accounting Practice

Accordion’s Operational & Technical Accounting Advisory (O&T) Practice is a dedicated team that provides accounting and financial advice to private‑equity‑backed portfolio companies on a wide range of transactions and events, including accounting policies & procedures, ERP/financial system execution, financial statement close process, process & controls implementation, technical accounting, finance/accounting assessment & design, and finance & accounting organization stand‑up from a carve‑out or merger.

This role can be based in any of our U.S. office locations (NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, San Francisco, or Los Angeles) and is a hybrid role with flexibility to work remotely two days a week. Candidates must be local to the chosen office. Travel to client sites will be required as needed. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist a rapidly growing company with a global footprint to shorten a 45‑day close cycle:
    • Perform deep‑dives to assess current state processes, people, and systems
    • Identify root causes and recommend improvements to bridge control gaps
    • Implement tools and solutions to streamline the close process
  • Support a cash‑basis company through its first‑year audit:
    • Convert cash to US GAAP, including revenue recognition and lease accounting
    • Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules accurately and on time
    • Project‑manage the audit timeline throughout the engagement
  • Help a PE sponsor consolidate three stand‑alone businesses:
    • Design a unified finance function with intuitive processes and controls
    • Draft a single set of policies and procedures for all businesses
    • Create a standard chart of accounts for the consolidated entity
    • Select, implement, and champion a robust ERP solution that meets combined needs
    • Conduct purchase accounting analyses and establish US GAAP‑compliant opening balances
    • Consolidate existing financial reporting from disparate systems
  • Guide a technology company transitioning to a SaaS model:
    • Address revenue recognition changes and draft new accounting policies
    • Challenge existing revenue forecasts and cost drivers
    • Evolve invoicing processes to reflect new business models
You Have
  • Minimum 3 years of experience (ideally 3+) in financial accounting or operations at a top‑tier public accounting or financial advisory firm, and/or private company
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA is a plus
  • Strong, up‑to‑date knowledge of US GAAP (IFRS exposure is a plus), with deep technical understanding of ASC 606, lease transactions, purchase accounting, and related topics
  • Experience with technical accounting advisory, audit readiness, and functional accounting / controllership support
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Strong client‑service mindset and communication skills
You Are
  • A self‑starter with a strong work ethic
  • A leader who leads by example
  • A strong team player able to collaborate across all levels
  • Capable of communicating complex issues and solutions clearly, including escalating to senior team members when necessary
  • Comfortable managing projects with multiple complex workstreams while focusing on one workstream at a time
  • Excited to be part of a growing team focused on future growth
  • Full of entrepreneurial spirit and comfortable in a fluid, flat organization
  • Knowledgeable about the relationship between private‑equity sponsors and their portfolio companies
  • Passionate about delivering exceptional client service
  • Enjoys mentoring others and doing meaningful work
  • Willing to get hands dirty in project details while maintaining a holistic view

The annual salary for this role ranges from $85,000 to $130,000 USD, plus benefits and bonus. Actual compensation is determined by evaluating a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location, skill set, years and depth of experience, education, certifications, cost of labor, and internal equity.
