Job summary

Optum is seeking an Associate Medical Director in San Jose, CA to lead clinical performance initiatives and oversee a network of providers. The role focuses on population health, value-based care, and strategic collaboration with regional leadership.

Requires MD/DO with CA license and board certification in IM/FM, with 5+ years outpatient experience and strong leadership, communication, and strategic skills. On-site requirement and full-time schedule in San Jose.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with CA license and active board certification in IM/FM.
• Minimum 5 years of outpatient clinic experience.
• Ability to lead performance management and value-based care initiatives.
• Strong written and verbal communication; leadership qualities.

Responsibilities

• Schedule: Full-time, 40 weekly hours onsite in San Jose.
• Oversee physician leaders and clinicians across IPA and employed sites.
• Drive regional performance on Medicare risk, CMS STARs, HEDIS, and utilization.
• Support cost-efficiency strategies and site-of-service optimization.
• Collaborate with leadership to address practice variations and quality issues.
• Present performance data to clinical groups and clinicians.
• Recruit employed physicians and Specialty services; support network alignment.
