Job description

About Us

At Intramotev, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the freight industry by liberating tons of freight from congested highways, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing transportation efficiency. We are deploying self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network.

Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking and transportation. We actively foster a work environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunities for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Role Overview

We are seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join the mechanical team supporting the development of our self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles. This is a broad early-career mechanical seat spanning mechanical design (CAD), structural analysis, and vehicle systems — brakes, drivetrain, thermal management, retrofit installation, and support equipment. You'll own defined design and analysis tasks under senior-engineer direction and grow autonomy across the design–build–test loop. This is a full-time, 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO. You'll work within a team of 1–10 engineers and technicians and engage in occasional domestic travel for testing, integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical Design (CAD): Develop and maintain 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings — with GD&T — for components, brackets, enclosures, and subassemblies of the retrofittable railcar kit.

  • Structural Analysis: Perform hand calculations and FEA to establish structural characteristics and performance margins for assigned components.

  • Vehicle Systems: Support the design and installation of braking, drivetrain/axle integration, motor mounting, and thermal management systems onto existing railcars.

  • Test & Validation: Build and instrument test setups, run tests, reduce data, and support the generation of regulatory certification evidence.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior engineers, manufacturing, and suppliers to keep designs aligned to fabrication, assembly, and certification needs.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $60,000-$80,000 plus equity

Intramotev offers a comprehensive benefits package for all team members, including:

  • Medical coverage: We cover 100% of employee medical premiums, plus low-cost dental and vision options.

  • Vacation: Full-time employees enjoy unlimited paid time off.

  • Equity: Full-time employees receive equity in the company.

  • Parental leave: New parents receive paid time off to spend quality time with their family.

About You: Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field. Open to December 2026 and May 2027 graduates.

  • 0–2 years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical product design, including relevant internship, co-op, or university research/project experience.

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and the ability to produce manufacturing drawings with GD&T.

  • Foundational strength in statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials — able to size a part and defend the calculation.

  • Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly for vehicle or heavy-equipment hardware.

  • Hands-on aptitude, comfortable in a shop or lab measuring, fitting, and testing real hardware.

  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise.

  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as an individual contributor.

  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. F-1 OPT is supported.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • FEA experience (ANSYS, Abaqus, or CAD-integrated simulation) for structural or thermal problems.

  • Thermal management system design and thermal analysis tooling.

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, Fusion, AutoCAD, or SOLIDWORKS, and with PDM/PLM revision control.

  • Vehicle electrification — powertrain, drivetrain, or axle development.

  • Rail vehicles or rail systems exposure, including AAR practice.

  • Welded structures, fabrication, or machining familiarity.

  • Instrumentation and physical test experience — strain gauges, load cells, data acquisition.

  • University design competitions — Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Solar Car, robotics, or comparable hands‑on build teams — or experience in a directly applicable domain: rail, electric vehicles, automotive, aerospace, or heavy machinery.

Typical Education and Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor and/or Master) and typically 0–2 years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. relevant internship, co‑op, or university research/project experience).
