Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. designs advanced systems for space technologies. The Associate Mechanical Designer will create SolidWorks models and drawings, manage BOMs, and prepare documentation for reviews and manufacturing release.

Qualified candidates have 1–3 years in mechanical design, an Associate's or Bachelor's in Mechanical Design, proficiency in SolidWorks and Visio, and familiarity with PLM systems. Ability to obtain a US security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting/Design Technology, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 1–3 years of experience preparing mechanical and/or electro-mechanical design drawings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Visio (for cable/harness diagrams).
• Experience with SolidWorks (for 3D modeling, drawings, or harness drawings).
• Familiarity with PLM systems (Arena, Agile, Windchill, Teamcenter, or similar).
• Experience with GD&T and ability to obtain a US security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and update mechanical CAD models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to translate design intent into detailed drawings and BOMs.

Projects vary from packaging high reliability electronics subsystems to opto-mechanical mechanism design such as gimbal and steering mirror systems. We are seeking an Associate Mechanical Designer to support our engineering team in the design and documentation of custom machined parts, assemblies and BOM (Bill of Material) generations and management. This role will focus on capturing technical data into our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, preparing drawings, and assisting with mechanical model design and assembly drawings using SolidWorks.
