Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join a design team developing next-generation UAV systems and subsystems. You will contribute from concept through detailed design, building and testing prototype hardware.

Responsibilities include modeling with CAD (SolidWorks), simulations (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS), rapid prototyping (3D printing), and producing manufacturing drawings and BOMs while supporting reviews and planning with project managers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems with hardware transition.
  • Experience designing machined, composite, plastic injection molded, sheet metal parts, wiring and assemblies.
  • Hands-on building/prototyping experience with lightweight miniature robotic systems or similar.
  • Experience designing electro-mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks and MS Office.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings complying with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5.

Responsibilities

  • Designs structural components, electro-mechanical and payload hardware for UAV subsystems.
  • Develops manufacturing drawings and BOMs; supports design reviews.
  • Plans and schedules engineering work with project managers; supports production with component fabrication.

Worker TypeRegularJob DescriptionSummaryThe Mechanical Engineer I is part of a design team focused on the development of the next generation UAV systems and their subsystems. This will include all levels and facets of design from conceptual clear through the detailed design and will include building and testing of these systems.
