Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze and test tools, engines and UAV subsystem hardware. You will contribute to the next generation of UAV systems, from conceptual design through detailed development, including prototyping and testing.

The role emphasizes creating manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and collaborating with project managers to meet schedule and budget. Strong experience with ASME standards and SolidWorks is required.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems with transition to hardware.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience designing machined, composite, plastic injection molded, sheet metal parts, wire and mechanical assemblies.
  • Hands-on building/prototyping experience for lightweight miniature robotic systems or similar.
  • Experience with thermo-dynamic constraints in electro-mechanical systems.
  • Competence with mechanical engineering processes and design/analysis tools.
  • Proficient in engineering drawings compliant with ASME Y14 standards and SolidWorks; MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Designs structural components, electro-mechanical and payload mechanical systems.
  • Reads blueprints and develops manufacturing drawings and bills of materials.
  • Supports project managers with planning and scheduling engineering work.
  • Resolves issues and provides technical guidance to team members.
  • Contributes to design reviews and coordinates with manufacturing and suppliers.

This individual will be a part of a design team focused on development of the next generation UAV systems and their subsystems.
